This was addressed to EBree because out of all my LIWs and BIWs and other PSers, she''s the one who''s had a hand (so to speak) in my search for the perfect stone... Well, after perusing WF and James Allen (is it just me, or has he stopped his sig. series Radiants?) searching for my perfect radiant, I came upon some emerald cuts that intrigued me. We LOVE the emerald shape, which is why we''re looking for radiants. The one we tried on at Robbins Bros. was just so plain and boring, and that made me change from wanting an emerald to wanting a radiant. Now I''m seeing very bright emerald cuts, with shine and just great step cuts. (Thanks, Lovely Lulu for showing me what a great one looks like) I''m wondering if I should expand my search with WF (and my guy Ron) to look for radiants AND emeralds? It was the boring Robbins Bros. cuts that made me abandon the search for an emerald. It''s the shape, the cut corners and the elongated shine that drew me to it and radiants. Anyone? Opinions? Also, I understand that I may have to wait for my stone, whether it be a radiant or an emerald. This time (ha ha) it isn''t about wanting a stone faster, I promise.

Hey Amber! I say give the radiant search a liiiiittle more time first! Go back and read all your posts from that first day you came back gushing about how you had finally fallen completely in love with a stone type, and try to remember that feeling of complete infatuation with radiants! I think emeralds are gorgeous too...but YOU wanted a radiant!!! I just worry that your resentment/disappointment that you haven''t found a perfect radiant yet is giving you a bad feeling about radiants in general, which is why you keep thinking about extending your search, but ultimately if this is your ring for good, you want to get it 100% perfect! So let the radiant search continue for a bit longer, look at some pictures of gorgeous radiants, read your old posts, and see if you really DO want one (I think you probably do!) If in the end you decide you might be happier with an emerald cut, then by all means go for it, but I just don''t want you to switch gears now for the wrong reason! The perfect radiant will come along sooooon, I promise!!

I agree with Albi. Don''t give up just yet! You''ll wear your ring for a long time, and you wouldn''t want to wish that you''d waited a bit longer to get a radiant everytime to look at it, right? Keep looking. Something will turn up!

Good luck!!

If you're thinking you'd love an emerald, I think that's great! It's still early enough in the game to change your mind. Have you tried any emeralds on since Robbins Bros? That's what I'd do before deciding on one.

Do you have a Tiffany & Co. near you? I know, I know, bad...but it might give you a good idea as to what well cut emeralds look like on your hand. Or, you could make a day out of going to small jewelry shops in your area, requesting nothing but radiants and emeralds. Some might be duds (like the Robbins Bros stone) but some might blow you away. Trying on one after the other (both shapes, your old love and your possible new) might give you a better idea of what you love the most.

Sometimes I wish I''d tried on other shapes...my boyfriend and I agreed on the round before I''d even put one on my finger. I know a round is what I prefer to this day, but it still would have been nice to try on my other favorites, just to know that they weren''t for me.

I think you need to get certain shapes out of your system. And, who knows, you might just adore a really well-cut emerald. They''re both rectangular, so that''s good...you just need to find which sparkle factor grabs you more!

I gotta agree with Ebree! Amber you need to see both before you absolutely make your decision. ECs really don''t sparkle at all when they are duds..I know I''ve seen plenty of ''em in ''the real world.''
20.gif
I feel like EC duds are even worse than round or other types of fancies that are duds.

Ebree I have to agree I wish I had tried on more shapes before deciding err that was until I saw the Jubilee! I love asschers but when I finally saw one in person (even an RA) it''s just not for me

Hey guys! Thanks for posting! I knew I could count on you two for input, also.

It''s funny because I really don''t have a big problem waiting any more (the more time= more money to spend!!), and I DO love my radiants. BUT- and it''s a small but (wish I had one of those) I really did love the emerald before. The Robbins Bros. deadmerald (which is what it looked like) was just so plain. It didn''t shine, it didn''t even flicker. I will absolutely keep my search for radiants going. NO doubt about that. I just wanted to know opinions on whether I should take a look at the ems. as well. Gosh, I think about how many times I''ve changed my mind.. (round to cushion {ALBI!!} to radiant and now Rad/Emerald) and I just hate how I looked to wishy-washy. At least I know one thing, no princesses for me. It''s the square look I don''t like, I think. I LOVE the RB, but on my hand it looked bad. Here are my reasons for each choice:

Radiant: I love it because: The cut corners, the rectangular shape (on the rec. shaped ones), the shattered glass look, the sparkle that comes off of it.

Emerald: I love it because: The cut corners, the rectangular shape, the step cuts, the way it shines when light hits it. The clean look.

Here''s the difference, I love the shattered glass look on the radiant, and I love the light that comes off of an emerald cut. I just worried before that the emerald may be so clean, and would have that dead look the Robbins Bros. ring had. I am in no way stopping my search for the radiant, but I also may look (on my own) into some emeralds, instead of having Ron @WF do it for me. It can''t hurt to be educated, right?

Girls, I promise this isn''t because of impatience.

It''s the shape I love. Gotta look into what is out there. Honestly, is it bad?

Ha ha ha. I type so slow!! It took me forever to write that, and in the time it happened, you guys had written! Man I''m slow. Anyway, thanks for writing back. I KNOW that if there is anything I LOVE about my future stone, it will be rectangular. So that really leaves two options, and they are those above!
36.gif
Wow, I''ve decided on something!! Ha ha ha! I think I may need to try some others on, I swear that Rob. Bros. one was just dead on my hand. It actually made us kinda sad about it it, because we were like, oh man.
15.gif
My BF was sad, he''d really liked them. When I called him this morning, and told him that I may be looking into emeralds, and they weren''t all like the one we had seen, he got excited.
9.gif
Man, I wish I could go to Tiffany. I can''t remember where there are any here. I know in Bev. Hills (of course) and South Coast plaza... Hm..

Hehe, you have no idea how much I had to resist a little cushion plug in there, just in case you were open to other types of stones again...

But yeah, if you reeeally love emeralds, get an emerald! Just make sure you don''t let your disappointment about it taking too long cloud your judgement!!! And even if you find the perfect emerald, I might wait to buy it until after you have also gotten a good look at a radiant with the specs you want, so you can do a fair comparison. But honestly, with a setting as gorgeous as yours, I think it would be pretty hard to end up with a ring that isn''t fantastic!

Hi Amber,

I''m new so this may have been talked about to death but how about an ascher (sp?) cut? Kind of the best of both worlds but I don''t know if you want rectangular or not. Again, excuse my ignorance.

I tried on radiants and emeralds at different jewelers and I also tried on emerads and lucidas at Tiffany''s. For me, I need sparkle and fire and I tried on various different qualities of emeralds and they just didn''t do it for me.
emembarrassed.gif
Kind of boring. JMO.

I say, keep looking for that radiant! My sister''s center stone is a 2.5 carat F color radiant in a rectangular shape and it is so icy! Just gorgeous! I can see why you love the radiant cut!
emsmilep.gif

P.S. I ended up with a RB. Go figure, after trying many rings on, I was in love! I never, in a million years, thought I would go for a Round. Crazy.

Albi, if the cushion was a little more rectangular, I would have been sold. But then again, it wouldn''t be a cushion!
20.gif
I''m so lame. Skylah, I''ve got to agree, so many of the emeralds I have seen were just so boring. But then I see the ones on PS and I''m just like- wait! I want an emerald, too!

I just love the rectangular cut corners shape. And Albi, I WILL compare the radiants and the emeralds, because I know that I''ll always wonder, right? And if I see one that doesn''t look too firey (and emerald, I mean), I''ll stick with my radiant. I hate this part!!
20.gif
Oh, to be able to buy all of them..

My cushion is pretty rectangular!!!

Hehehe, just make sure you think it through (ha, as if I have to TELL you to spend time thinking about this!

) and I''m sure whatever you get will be perfect!

Albi, I am SO thinking this through, so much so that I''m sitting here with a dark rain cloud over my head thinking, "Why couldn''t it be enough to know what I DON''T like?"
face17.gif

Seeing them and trying them on for comparison is the best thing you can do, I think. It makes such a big difference to see them in person and try them on!! (I should know, I went from a five stone to a solitaire after one shopping trip!!) Sorry I can''t give you advice on where to go, but I hope it works out.

Good luck!

Honey, we all care (referring to your subject line)!!!

I think expanding is a good idea. You never know you may find an EC that you love
30.gif
or you may find the fabulous radiant.

Just promise us you won''t pic something that don''t absolutely love!!!

You're in L.A.?? There's one at the Century City mall. Can't remember the exact name of that mall despite having worked there 'lo these many years ago, but it's the outdoor mall between Olympic and Santa Monica.

ETA: I'll be in LA again in a little over a week, and I assure you that's where I'm heading to try on rings. Just wish they weren't all a size 6 so I could actually get them on.
7.gif

Caribou, thanks so much.. I realized it was a bit of a snarky line up there!
emembarrassed.gif
Bad me. Low self esteem and all that. And I think I will try them on somewhere. Hey, Wren, wouldn''t it be hilarious if I ran into you at Century City mall? Funny thing, too. BF and I have been going there a lot since we got a ton of gift cards for AMC and that''s the only (good) AMC around here! Maybe I could talk him into going with me, after all, he KNOWS I won''t buy anything from Tiffany, even if I could afford to I wouldn''t. So there''s no way I''d get talked into buying a ring there! Size 6, you say? Well, maybe I can squeeze one on my finger. Suck it in. I''d think my BF wouldn''t mind going with me, since he wants me to have the perfect e-ring and all.

I recently purchased a signature series radiant from Dirt Cheap Diamonds and I love it. Each place I took it to, the appraiser, the jewelers that set my diamond, etc all thought that it was a fantastic cut...That being said I didn''t really see much on their website right now for signature radiants. Have you emailed them? Maybe they could help you find a really good one. They were really easy to work with, and I bet they would be helpful. Emeralds are really nice too, but they are more sophisticated and conservative rather than sparkley and striking...just a matter of taste I guess. My mom likes emeralds, but even when she saw a radiant for the first time she loved it. Just my 2 bits.
