Good morning,

It´s been almost 10 years since I purchased, with your help, a wonderful H&A solitaire for my then-girlfriend.

I´m now shopping for a larger EC eternity ring and would love your views. As with the solitaire, I am trying to find the best possible cut quality (which has really paid off in the case of the solitaire, couldn´t be happier with the engagement ring, a joy to watch it every single day.)

Thinking of about 10ct in total (.5-.6 ct per stone x 18), EC, G color, VS1 (maybe VS2?), and a full platinum eternity band. I know, not a very practical ring, cannot be resized etc. but I think it´s what my wife has set her heart on ;-) We did try someting comparable in a store and it did look very nice...

- Any recommendations for vendors? IDJ came up a lot in other posts. I´d be looking for someone who really puts the time in to source stones that fit well together and will be selective in getting a fantastic cut. And it´d be ok for me if that comes at a price. Btw, I went with Whiteflash for the H&A and was very happy. At least back then this was a fantastic recommendation form this forum.
- Setting: Would you get this custom made separately? The solitaire has a Mark Morrell setting which turned out very nice. Not necessarily super easy to work with him, though ;-) Alternatively, just go with something from the vendor? Any thoughts on what type of setting would allow the stones to sit closest to the finger, i.e. would decrease the overall diameter of the ring?
- Would you get GIA certificates for each stone? I don´t care about the certificate per se, tbh. Alternatively, could one just trust the grading of the vendor? I guess sth like color would be very hard to grade again once the stones have been set. Would love to avoid to end up with H or I stones while paying for G ;-)
- In terms of "eye cleannes" and "whiteness" under pratical conditions, would G/VS1 be a good sweet spot? Similar to round cut diamonds, or anything else to take into account?

Many thanks in advance for your kind help!

Best, Jan

No recommendations, but try the ring on before the diamonds are set.
Make sure there is a little thickness that can be filed away inside the band as fingers rarely grow smaller.
We have made a few of these and had great success. But I do not sell to PSers.

Your experience has proved valuable re purchasing a Super Ideal ACA for her engagement ring. I'd follow through & buy the best cut quality emerald suite I could find. And with an eternity like yours, its just too much $$ involved to not know the spec's you are purchasing. I'd definitely get those diamonds certed.

I have an eternity band w .50 ACA rounds, but I didn't do a full eternity. Left a very small sizing bar & am very happy I included that feature. YMMV--but that's what I did & it turned out just fine/for me. I included a pic below of my ring showing the sizing bar for your reference.

I've only purchased from WF & from @Rhino at Distinctive Gems, who also has a concierge service, which maybe of help to you as you look for stones. I'm sure you'll get some recommendations for other resources after my post, best of luck w your hunt. Can't wait to see the finished ring, it''ll be gorgeous!

That is a huge ring. I would suggest that a cz ring in the right size be purchased to see if she can actually wear it.
I was set on a 5 to 6 ct weight ring and after reading tips here I did that. Wow, was that thing uncomfortable. I could never wear it as an everyday ring. I've gone down to about 3 ct tw.

It may be beautiful but if it just stays stuck I'm a box, it's a waste.

Hello!

I can only add my own experience. I purchased an emerald cut eternity band from Steven Kirsch back in 2016. The diamonds are a bit smaller than what you’re looking for at .3 each for a total of 6.3 carats ( size 6.75) and it’s VERY comfortable. The setting is very well made and my husband was very insistent the prongs look delicate as some eternity bands we viewed he thought the prongs looked clunky. The diamonds are F color VS1-2

Thank you so much for all of the valuable advice! Will then try to leave some excess metal on the inside of the ring that could be filed away later.

We did try on a ring with .57ct stones, so the overall dimension is fine. Certainly not an everyday piece, though ;-)

I have done some further research over the last days. WF unfortunately did not have the capacity to take on this project. Need to decide between IDJ and Victor Canera. Will open a new thread with some questions around that choice.

As always, your advice has been invaluable. Truly appreciated!
