Hello! I'm grateful to have learned so much in short period of time from the experts in this forum! Turns out I need to learn much more because I may have guided my partner to a not-so-great LG emerald cut, now that I've read much more about windowing. Our goal has been to make a ring that looks like this one in the link below:
Model Ring/Diamond Specs:
11.76 x 6.60 x 4.16 mm (1.7
3.16 carat
G
VVS2
Table: 69%
Depth: 63%
Girdle: Medium
Symmetry: Excellent
We searched LGD and decided on the stone below, which my partner bought, in trying to get close to the model diamond's dimensions, so that the east-west configuration and overall design will still well. But when I'm looking at it now, I'm a lot more worried about the windowing...we'll see it in person soon and will confirm then. But I don't think it looks very "lively," now that I've read about that descriptor!
Purchased Diamond Specs:
Questions for your expertise are:
1) In the original ring, the L:W dimensions are quite elongated when compared to what most people find most appealing in ECs, it seems. The East-West setting really appeals to me --but I wonder if I should worry about this ratio?
2) What is your unvarnished opinion about the stone we bought? Am I overreacting?
3) Are there strategies you would recommend we use as novices in assessing options on LGD?
Many, many thanks for helping me not lead my partner astray! (again!)
