Eek-I am going to my first JAWS-any pointers?

Well, I have been hemming and hawing, but I'm heading to JAWS NY this week. I have only 1 day there. Any pointers for me? I'm so excited!

I typically go. Not this time though.

Go in with a set budget or items you are looking for, if possible. Bring a checkbook and have cash. Some don't take cards. Bring a loupe.

Get business cards and take a picture of the item with the card, so you can comparison shop.

Prices aren't always different online v the show. Sometimes they are. But don't expect that it's all a deal- lots of times the prices are the same. Don't feel a rush to buy if it's a vendor you can buy online from and make quick choices.

Be smart about the location. It's in a fine spot. But don't go decked out in stuff. It communicated you have money and puts you at risk for theft/mugging. Don't be a target.

I agree with points above by @elizat! Especially agree on the point about pricing...I was in love with a ring once and the price I was quoted was higher than what they had it listed for on their own website! But I've also bought some reasonable items that I didn't think twice about when I was given a price because I knew it was a good "deal". Regardless, take your time and shop around. The fun is in trying on everything (and taking pictures to ogle later on!).

Pretty sure I'm also going. It could get a bit exhausting (I usually stay hours though LOL), wear comfortable shoes, take water, and try not to blow the budget.

I usually buzz through the Javits trade shows. If I have extra time are there any other NY vendors I should try to visit?

Old World Diamonds doesn't go and a lot of the vendors you see mentioned here don't go- DBL, ID Jewelry, etc.

Ari at Vivid Diamonds is very nice. They always have a mix of stuff. He's very kind and will let you look through the trays of stuff he has. He always remembers me and what he has sold me before. He has some great "bargain" trays of mishmash of stuff usually that I have picked up good deals from.

Elizabeth Dimotrova also has nice stuff that I like. List seems slimmer than before, likely due to covid still.
