Clearly I am obesessing too much about politics these days, but it struck me today that I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have an election day proposal! If my candidates win, I can''t imagine a more exciting day to get engaged! It would be such a fantastically historic day, and something that we would remember forever and ever. I mean, what a great story to tell. If they don''t win, meh... save the proposal for another day.

I do not/did not intend for this to be a discussion about politics at all, but what do you think about an election day proposal? Exciting? Not your cup of tea? Please weigh in!

Hahahahha, trillionaire I follow you in Around the World. Let''s just say if your candidate wins, I''ll be so elated that I might propose to you.

But in all seriousness, actually, I am having a hard time being serious about this one. You crack me up lady!!

Haha, trillionaire, I duno, I guess UNIQUE is the only word I''ll use for it.

Totally with you, Trillionaire. I have cleared my schedule to take people to poll locations all day, have been looking forward to November 4th 2008 for a couple of years at least.

Besides the first day of school, presidential election day might be my favorite of the year. ESPECIALLY if my candidates win and proposals I support/oppose are passed/defeated!

Wow, now you''ve got me thinking about this....

Um, I love it! For a couple of reasons.

FF and I met three years ago on the night of November 4, into November 5. So not only would it be an anniversary for us, but my birthday is also on November 5. So it would be an Obama-Win/Proposal/Anniversary/Birthday extravaganza!

That would be one HELL of a day for me!

best. idea. ever. seriously.

Trillionare,
OMG!!!! I would just die!!! It would be the greatest thing in the whole world. I am very involved in a Senatorial campaign here locally and drag FF out canvassing every weekend. FF has never been politically involved (I''ve worked for the state party) and he is getting so pumped up about this elections. I took him to our candidate''s Presidential nomination acceptance speech and he lost his mind. It is so awesome to see him get pumped!!!
So I''m with you sister! It would be the greatest thing ever (next to a victory of course!)!!!!!

haha your too cute trill!

If you think it would be awesome, then that''s great!!

Me on the other hand, wouldn''t want the election to "steal MY thunder" if you know what I mean.....Id rather it be MY day and my day only. I know that sounds selfish but after waiting 10 years (and then probably 1-3 more years) you could probably understand where Im coming from. ha!

LOL! If my candidates win, I will be talking to everyone I know that night anyway, so I think it would really make it such an over the top joyous occasion! I'm strange in that I am not into weddings, but a memorable proposal is something I can really get behind.

A ring, a new prez, a bottle of bubbly and my man. BEST DAY EVER! And SO grew up jehovah's witness, so he was apolitical at the time that we met. I let him know that apathy was NOT OKAY in my books, I am really passionate about voting and being an informed citizen! Now I can't pry him away from the TV during debates, and we have volunteered together to pass out fliers about voting, etc. It's been a fun progression that we have made together, and I can't think of anything more perfect (no, I didn't bully him, either!). And if I wasn't completely and utterly broke, I would probably buy a ring and do it myself.

Sigh, another fantastic occasion that is going to go to waste. Men...

If you''re into that kinda thing, then that''s exciting for you!

I would kick my SO in the face if that happened to me (just kidding- unless he proposed to me with a blinged out diamond "Obama ''08" ring)

Personally, I think most politicians are corrupt on the inside- I would hate to have my special day overshadowed by one of them, but that''s just my $0.02.

I''d rather have my engagment tied to Christmas, New Years, Valentine''s, etc. etc... something cliche'' and romantic. Politics are about as far away from romance as I can think.

To each his own, right? I hope your candidate wins for you! And I hope your engagment is exciting and special, and just how YOU like it!

I think that idea is AMAZING :)

As a political science major/current law student living in the city where the DNC took place, I think it''d be fabulous-- What a great idea. I hope that you get your perfectly political proposal

I absolutely LOVE the idea.

However, if it was a win for the GOP, I''d consider it to be pretty bittersweet.

But I can''t imagine the high of having my candidates win PLUS be engaged.

It would be a monumental night!!!

BTW, great post!

Oh my gosh, you are so political!(In a good way....I wish I followed this stuff more) I love it!

I am still dreaming of an election day proposal, but I am 99.9% sure it will never happen.

I doubt he would even think of it...

Anyway, I was talking to my dad yesterday, and he asked me about my X-mas plans, and invited SO to come out for X-mas too. I told my dad that I would ask, but that SO would probably be visiting his family. Well I mention this to SO and he is all "I would love to come out for x-mas!" Really enthusiastically. I was actually pretty surprised, though he has visited my family at the holidays before (right after x-mas). Anyway, maybe a holiday proposal is in the cards? I would still LOVE my election proposal, but I would also really LOVE to share my engagement with my family. If nothing else, he can at least have "the talk" with my dad!

Yay! Well, it''s a real good thing your dad likes him, huh?

What would he do if you casually mentioned the election day proposal to him? I doubt he would think of it either... and if not this year, then you''ve got to wait another 4 years- ha ha.

Maybe you can shoot for the inauguration day?

I think that an election day proposal would be more exciting, because it is more of a climax. I'm not sure how you "casually" mention a day for proposing, but that doesn't mean I won't try

. Either way, X-mas could be good too, but not nearly as cool. Very cliche, and he hates cliche!

ETA: I told him that we should get married on inauguration day, and he said he was not going to share his day with another man. (A very man thing to say, lol) I reminded him that the president wouldn't be invited to the wedding, but yeah, I don't think it's going to be a good sell. LOL. So I doubt that the election day proposal would happen. Oh well.
