Elmorton -- Hi! Just wanted to let you know that I stopped at the Cat Clinic today and they gave me some sample size bags of dry Innova Evo cat food. I''m anxious to see how my cats like it.

By the way, I was reading through your old thread about feeding your kitties. I have an all black cat too! Your kitties are adorable!

Awesome! Let me know how your kitties like it. Ours have been much happier just since we''ve added Iams and been feeding them more, but I know their diet can be improved and Elmo (the tiger one) has been putting on pounds again. Maybe he''s just a heavy kitty, but maaan, when he wakes me up in the morning, I swear he''s going to bruise one of my vital organs. And, yay for black kitties! Someone told me once that they have a harder time getting adopted because of the old superstitions, but I think that''s silly - they''re stinking adorable, especially as kittens. Anyway, thanks for the compliment and the info! :)

So far neither one of my cats is a big fan of the new food. I just put a bowl out next to their exisiting food (Nutro) and it doesn''t look like they have touched it. The woman at the vet office told me how cats love this food... apparently not mine!

I adopted Johnny from Animal Aid (in East Moline), but they were at Petsmart. I had looked at him earlier in the day and put him on hold. When I went back to pick him up, a little blond girl was holding him. Her dad told her he was mine and she got all upset and started crying. I told her parents they could have him, but apparently the dad had told her she could have any cat she wanted EXCEPT the all black one! I was specifically looking for a black cat.

Wait..so did the father say no because he'd already told her that the black cat was for someone else or because he didn't want to have a black cat? I really hope it's the first... And also, lol, I'm not sure I would have been able to tell the little girl she could have the him! You are a much kinder person than I would have been :)

I wasn't looking for a black cat at all - our story is kinda complicated. For my 22nd bday, I told DH (BF then :) I wanted a cat and I wanted to adopt it from a shelter. I knew that I'd never be able to choose one myself (I volunteered at the Humane Society and had fallen in love with literally every cat there). Being that we were both in college, we knew that getting a shelter cat would be VERY difficult because of their screening process. So, DH asked his mom and sister who were very eager to pick out a kitten. I love MIL's gorgeous long hair orange cat and told them that if they could find one that looked like Kaos, that would be the one I wanted. So, on my birthday, I got a call from my SIL and she said "We just left the shelter..I am sooo sorry, but they didn't have any kittens that look like Kaos. There were just three...all black." I asked her to go back and see if there was one of the three that she liked. When I first saw pics of Morty, he just looked like a big black ball- perfectly round because of all the fur! It was pretty much love at first sight. About a year later, Morty was getting kindof attacky, so we decided we HAD to get the most rambunctious kitten we could find to keep him company. When I saw Elmo, he was terrorizing all his litter mates and then tore apart the vet's examination room, so we knew they'd be a perfect pair.

Haha, sorry about the rambling story...I'm a complete nut about the kitties. Does Johnny have any white on him? Morty has the strangest white patches - one little one under his chin, two spots on his chest, and between his back legs a huuuge white patch. It looks like he's wearing underwear when he's laying on his back. How long have you had the two of them? Did you get them together?

ETA: In my looong post I completely left out that every time we've changed food, we've mixed 1/3-1/2 parts with their regular stuff. Elmo and Morty have never refused anything (although Elmo IS the kitty who licked clean a bowl of hot sauce, sooo...that might not say anything).

The little girl’s dad said no because he was an all black cat. He was very strong in his opinion that he did not want an all black cat. I heard him tell her she could have any cat she wanted EXCEPT an all black one! Our story is kind of funny… My husband did not want a cat and I would occasionally ask about one just for fun. We moved into our house about two years ago and we have tons of rabbits in our yard in the summers. I kept saying a cat would solve the problem! He finally told me I could get one if I wanted, but it was going to be MY cat and 100% my responsibility (meaning he didn’t really want one, but would accept one if I did all the work). So, I adopt Johnny the day after Bix this past summer. He only weighed 1.5 pounds and was so sweet… Of course, he was too little to “hunt” rabbits in the yard at that point. Everything was fine except he was crying (very loudly) at our bedroom door at night. If we let him in our room, he would walk all around and get right in our faces when we were trying to sleep. The vet I was using at the time suggested a playmate… So I got June about four weeks later. Now we have two indoor cats that sleep in bed with us every night and I’m sure all the rabbits will be back destroying our plants this spring!! The good news is that my husband LOVES these cats now. If they don’t come to bed when we do, he calls for them at the stairs.

Johnny has a very, very small amount of white under his chin (like 3 hairs!)

My mom has an orange tabby named Irma -- I love that color too.

LOL, too cute about your husband. DH''s mom is the crazy cat lady (now the crazy dog lady, though - she got a golden doodle last summer), so DH actually converted me over. I had a very aloof cat when I was young, and had no idea that kitties could have such loving (and demanding) personalities.

Elmo is almost 2, but he STILL walks all over us in bed, but at least now it''s mostly in the morning and we''ve pretty much learned to just sleep through it. I am a little worried about the kitties'' bad habits right now though - we had a crazy MLK day and it ended with DH having his appendix taken out (he''s doing just fine now). I''ve been having to swat them away from DH when he''s sleeping because they want to get up on his tummy, so they''re not too pleased with us, but they''re be much happier than DH would be if he woke up with a cat on his stomach!

So sorry to hear about your hubby. Glad to hear he is doing ok now! I guess if you have to have some type of surgery or medical issue, this is the time of year to do it. Nobody really feels like leaving the house or doing much of anything when it’s 10 below!

My cats do the same thing with the tummy climbing. We have a mini home gym in the basement and everytime DH lays down to do his crunches Johnny climbs up on his stomach and plops down! It''s so cute...you have to laugh.
