Hello all,

I currently found an elongated cushion cut diamond within our price range (under $5500 for the CS) that we believe to have great spread for its carat weight and sparkle. I have done a ton of research and thought I figured it all out by sticking in the table/Deph/cut/symmetry/4C’s etc. As I am looking at other diamonds that some sites are recommending to me, I am having second thoughts because the diamonds they are recommending has a totally different look (contrast) than some of the ones I have been looking at. I didn’t like any of their recommended l/w ratios but I did find some other diamonds with more contrast similar to the ones they recommended to me. I do not like the complete crushed ice look. Please let me know what you all think of these diamonds and which one you believe to have the most fire and brilliance while still being at least 1.15 l/w ratio.

The diamond I picked:

Thank you all!!!

It is pretty easy to see the longer you go the more crushed ice regions and more bow tie effects. The shorter stone is by far the best. But I never buy based on a video.
Maybe you should consider radiant cuts? They were designed to be longer.

When you look for a stone you want to minimize the "mushy" areas because they do not return light well. You want to see discrete, well-defined facets as the stone turns (flashing white/black). The mushy areas in the stone you picked arent too bad (but could
be better). The nice thing about the stone you picked is it does look to have a nice crown on it (marked in the second picture). What
is the table size?

With respect to the other two stones you asked about...the second stone has slightly better light return than the one you picked
but has a pretty low crown. The last stone has the best light return of the 3 but does not have much of a crown either. I looked
for additional stones that might be better but didn't find any.

Thanks so much for your insight! The table size on the diamond is 65% with a Deph of 68.5%.

Radiants can be all mush, or have bowties. My preference are almost all facets appearing the same size.
Light return tends to be less than some other cuts, you would see in a side by side comparison but not when you look at a nice radiant by itself.
If you like the look it is not that hard to find nice longer shapes.

All G Color - notice how some show more color inside the tale near the ends.
With a bowtie:

My preference - more uniform sparkle all over:

The more mushy tiny speckles the more color will show (and you get this out of focus look because the light is bouncing around inside the stone and the 'virtual distance to the final focus point is 3 or 4 times the actual depth of the diamond):
