My BF and I plan to go to some tropical destination in the winter and get married, just the two of us. I would like to announce our marriage. Is it appropriate to send an announcement? Before or after the wedding? What do you say? Help?

We sent an announcement after, saying:

Together with their parents
Miscka
and
Mr. Miscka
announce their marriage
date
location

hope that helps!

Thanks Miscka. How wide was your "publication"?

we are having a small destination type wedding, and we will be sending announcements to those that we do not invite. we plan to put them in the mail so that they are received right around the day we get married. just the basics "coco and mr coco are married!" and (obviously) no registry info.

how fun! have you found your destination yet?

I think it's a great idea, but I would definitely send them after the wedding (or time them to arrive afterwards), so people don't confuse it with an invitation. Announcements aren't that common any more and the last thing you presumably want is someone calling you up telling you they'd be delighted to join you at your tropical wedding!

I'd probably send it to anyone who I wanted to know that I was married - all family, friends, and so on. Anyone you might invite if you were having a large wedding with an unlimited guest list, say.

ETA: Yes, people ARE that dumb.

I like the idea of sending them very close to the event - good idea. Drop them in the mail as we board the plane!!!

As for a destination, we have tossed around Hawaii. I don''t know really. The criteria is hot weather and a beautiful beach to say our vows!!!! So pretty easy! What is your destination?

I think we sent around 100? I can''t remember. Our situation was pretty different though. I just sent them to people I wanted to tell, and to family and anyone either of our parents wanted them to go to.

I had someone at home post them for us on the day of the wedding. I don''t remember the exact wording but it was a combined announcement and invitation to our party, which was the weekend after we got back, it was something like:

Today, D & M were married in Vail, Colorado
.........
You are invited to a party to celebrate on ... at... etc.

You certainly don''t want to announce it before and ruin the surprise, and I liked the idea of people getting the announcement in the mail the day it was happening. These days though, I suppose you can just update your status on facebook.

We only sent them to people we invited to the party (around 80 people), and just let word get around to everyone else. I did love running into people later who didn''t know, and having them ask ''what is that ring on your finger??''
