Hello! I’ve been dreaming about this gorgeous emerald ring since the first day I saw it, and I finally have justification to take the leap. That said, I have very little knowledge about buying colored gemstones. Is anyone able to call out any red flags based on the AGS cert? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Are you ok with the moderate level of modern resin type filling? For me, it would depend on the price. I cannot quite read the dimensions of the emerald but I believe it to be heavily windowed.

First of all... how cute are your two little babies?! Shih Tzus? :wavey:

If you've been dreaming about this ring, then you clearly love the look of it! Everyone will have different opinions on that aspect, so go with your gut. It certainly is lovely. Beyond that, the important first step is - it actually HAS an AGL cert, so that's great. What a fabulous weight and size. As chrono mentioned, I think the only thing you need to consider now is the treatment. With emeralds, we try to shoot for minor clarity enhancement. But those stones carry a premium. As the AGL notes, moderate treatment is still considered "uncommon," which means it's much more common for stones to be heavily treated. The other thing to consider is the type of enhancement. Some collectors prefer traditional methods such as cedarwood oil. Some collectors prefer modern methods, as is the case with this stone, such as resin. There are pros and cons to both. Cedarwood oil is natural, but unstable. Resins are synthetic, but tend to be more durable. So, again, it's all a matter of preference. At the end of the day, just make sure you do your homework and are paying a fair price. Good luck and have fun!

Personally I prefer treated emeralds to be minor or insignificantly treated. Moderate is a bit too much for me. Suggest you do some reading about emerald treatments and decide if you are fine with moderate treatment.

Also it doesn’t seem like the emerald has the glowy look. Are you ok with that? To me part of the magic for emeralds is how they glow in the light.

Lastly suggest you check if the ring can be resized. Right now it is bezeled and I’m not sure how easily it can be resized without damaging the stone. I’ve heard stories of prong set emeralds chipping/breaking while being removed for resetting. I think emeralds cannot be on the ring during resizing (due to heat stress etc) but I could be wrong.

I absolutely love the style of this ring with a sizable emerald and those skinny baguettes. The emerald looks a bit dark for my taste but it’s only one photograph so hard to tell. You may consider having one like this made?

On another note how is the diamond search going?

I can't speak to the quality of the emerald, but I love the setting!

Thank you for the feedback! Re: the diamond I'm officially going with the omc. Updates to come soon!!

Thank you, this is so very helpful! I really appreciate the input, as this is the first gemstone I’ve considered!

Yes they are shih-tzus! They’re the best!!!! :)

Ok that’s good to know. Here’s a closeup of the stats:

Does anyone have recommendations for vendors who have well priced, well cut emeralds? This one isn’t cheap - but the color is staggering to me. I’m not as big a fan of the lighter shades of emerald. Thank you!

Darker, well cut emeralds are always going to have a premium unless you get one really tiny or really included/enhanced.

Here is a link to the ring with videos and photos. I can’t tell the difference between windowing and transparency.

Emerald Ring

Playing killjoy, it’s very overpriced and that bezel is a bit crooked, no? JMHO.

It's a dark stone in the seller's video, with no glow. I think you can do better regarding color and treatment for the money.

I have an emerald ring that I love from JR Colombian Emeralds. They have a huge selection and were wonderful to work with!

Windowing occurs when a stone is cut improperly, usually too shallow, such that you can see the skin of you finger though when worn - almost no light return in the center and can affect color.
The videos don't make it obvious.

Jogaji are probably more expensive but they've posted more than one similar rings, just not with diamond sides. Pretty design, I can see why you like it.

While I'm on their page, here's a very shallow spinel - you can see how the sparkle is mostly coming from the edges, and how the center loses color when on the mannequin hand. Such cuts can still be charming, just know what you are getting.
