Hello again all. I have a friend working with Victor Canera on an art deco inspired ring with an emerald cut center.

His team has proposed these two center stones.... What do you all think? @Karl_K? I wish there was an ACA version of emerald cuts to make this easier.

Also, what do y'all think about a G color stone in an emerald this size? I now nothing about them but I thought they need a high color to look white? It will be set in platinum.

Thank you!

post the grading reports.

kewl, sorry if that sounded blunt.

Oh not at all, I have the uttermost respect for you and the time you volunteer here. I live in a very traditional place and we use "yes sir/ma'am" and "no sir/ma'am".

I would certainly defer to @Karl_K on this (he helped me in my own emerald search quite a bit) but that first one is really singing to me. The second one feels like there are some dead facets but it’s hard to tell without seeing the diamonds straight on.

Also my emerald is an H and while I don’t think I’m super color sensitive, I never think that I wish I it were whiter!

I agree.

They also sent this one, but no cert yet, will post when have it.

Do y'all think this is the kind of thing she can just leave up to Victor? Or is this not his expertise?
The third is a flat top and not in the same class.

I can not comment about Victor per the rules.
Vendors should not comment on other vendors per the rules.
I will say that there are far more people that know a good ec when they see it than can select them from limited data like a report and a video.

That makes sense, thank you. It sounds like the first is the only winner in this batch. I do believe they are sourcing some more.

If we live in the middle of Nowhere, and have no possibility of going Somewhere, is this a bad way to spend a lot of money? Is there a better way to do this long distance if her heart is set on an emerald cut?

using a vendor to help narrow options with help here and bring in and eyeball image and video the top ones is a very good way of doing it.

#1 looks much nicer to my eye.

Excellent! I’ll post more as we get them! Thank you so much!

This seems like the consensus! I think she is hoping to find something a little whiter and so is waiting on a couple of other stones.

Yours is beautiful! Thank you for the vote and your insight.

I also prefer this one (which I chose before reading the other replies):

It also looks a little whiter than the other G. I don't like the proportions of the third one aside from the flat top.

Victor certainly can give very valuable advice on diamonds. But I think getting opinions here is also great to help in narrowing them down.

Thank you! That is a very reassuring endorsement of Victor.

Funny bc all I see is color and I also noticed it was a little whiter. However, I know that’s not as important as cut!

Will they look at the stone in real life or at least get really good videos? It's very important that the person wearing it will buy based on what they prefer with fancy cuts.

Following this thread because of my interest in working with Victor. Still searching for the "right" stone. I know I do not want smaller than 2 ct but also interested in up to 3 ct for it to look substantial on my not so small fingers. Budget is max 30k, but maybe I do not have to go that far? To start designing, we need to put some $$ down so we will have to wait until January. My issue is, will I be able to find a good stone in that price range? I did find a 2.01ct E VVS2, but my heart is saying can you go bigger but still get a quality ring?

Also, we are based in Chicago. So will need to do a lot of virtual inspection of the stone and ring. Is it wrong to prefer video and GIA cert stones?

We even looked at Tiffany's very very limited stock and although it was not the ct size I wanted, they insisted that in addition to the GIA cert, they do their own certification to make sure they "stand behind their stone". Any other diamond vetting vendor/designer do this?

The one I found (from a thorough search from a lot of vendors):

Please help!!

Hey! This is a very stressful subject for sure and I don't have any advice. People usually say start your own thread with the specs you are looking for and you will get more replies. My friend kind of just gave up and is going to get a super ideal round like I did because it was less complicated. Sorry not to be of help.

Thanks! I'm set on an Emerald cut. Sorry didn't mean to impose on your thread, but I saw replies from users people recommend for opinions. Hoping to find some help! I'll post on my own thread as well.

No imposition! I just want you to get maximum responses. Good luck.
