Engagement parties are a formal way to celebrate the bride/groom-to-be''s engagement. It''s isn''t necessary, but it is an option. We didn''t have one ourselves, so I can''t help you with all the when/what/where questions.

As for engagement pictures, you can do it yourself, you can have your wedding photographer take them, or you can go to a studio. It''s really up to you. My father happened to take a beautiful picture of us in our backyard, which we used for the engagement picture, but our photographer for the wedding had an engagement picture included in the package, so we used his picture as well...it''s all up to you!

BTW....Congrats on your engagement!!!

My FMIL threw us a very small engagement party. It was before we moved out here to LA and it was with some of her friends and FI''s friends food and drink. It was nice.

Epics we wanted at Lincoln Park in Chicago, as we were getting ready to move away from the city. It was fun and I am really glad we did it!

Hi!

We just had our engagement party in San Francisco this weekend. It was actually quite formal but in the Armenian Orthodox culture, the engagement is a very religious thing. Our preist was there and he blessed us, our Best Man and MOH, and both families. We had a sit down dinner, dancing, favors but we had friends and family take photos.

Sometimes it''s fun to have a party if you''re having a long engagement but really, they are completely optional.

Congrats!

My parents threw us an engagement party right after the Holidays (he proposed in early Dec.) We only invited friends, as we had just celebrated with family over the holidays.

To make things fun and easy, we had a champagne and desserts party on a Sunday eve. It was a blast, and Im sooo thankful that we were able to do it!

No epics. We may have a photog take some of us over the summer at the beach. It will be great practice. I really want us to feel comfortable in front of a camera before our September wedding, and we also need a good pic of us for the mat photo frame that guests will sign at the reception.

aww thanks so much! so chargergrrl do you know of any good photographers in the SD area??

I don''t actually live in SD (went to college there). I''m up in L.A. We''re getting married in Temecula.

Have you checked out http://www.bridalinsider.com/ ?? It''s an AWESOME site. The San Diego forums are really active, and the Brides are soooo helpful! It''s been a great resource, and has helpled me plan from afar (OK, I''m not that far, but it is a challenge when you''re not local)

yea I''ve been on that site alot it has been helpful. My moms cousin is a proffesional photographer and im all for using him becuase he does great work and it will be free!
BUT my FI has never seen his work and wants to shop around. Grr how do I convince him?
Or should I shop around?

My parents threw us an engagement party. Our engagement will be just shy of two years, so it was fun to celebrate the engagement. (Two years is a long time to wait!) We were engaged last August and our party was in April. It is not necessary, but it can be fun. My parents held it at their golf club, but most of the ones I have been to have been a someone''s house. It can be a cookout with a couple friends, or a plated dinner in a ballroom. It is entirely up to you.

Anyone can take your engagement photo. We are waiting until early summer because 1) Our photographer suggested doing it after we had changed the clocks and 2) Newspaper engagement announcements are supposed to be run within one year of the upcoming wedding. We plan to use our engagement photos for that, and again, we are getting married in July of 07.
