Hi all,
I''ve booked my photographer recently and I LOOOOOOOVE him. i know he''ll do an amazing job. we decided that we''re going to take engagement photos in the fall and we''re deciding on a location.

Question for those who''ve taken engagement pics...is it extremely awkward? i was thinking about it last night and just couldn''t imagine that it''s a comfortable thing to do and silly enough...i got nervous about it. i''m not really camera shy either. the photographer doesn''t really pose too much, more of the photojournalistic style. i was just imagining him staring at me and FI waiting for us to do something and we''re just standing there shrugging our shoulders.

Silly, I know...just was curious what your experiences were.

We just did ours this past weekend (thread here)! We felt awkward for about 2-3 minutes, and then it got really comfortable. We just carried on in our usual banter, and we were able to chat with our photog when walking around from spot to spot in the park we were shooting, so we felt very comfortable with her.

What helped me was having looked at a good number of engagement shoots, so I had a few ideas for how to pose so we didnt'' just feel like we were standing side by side or whatever. I also sent my photog some pictures that captured the idea of what we wanted out of the shoot, and she brought some of her own. FI was a little less prepared, but he got the hang of it very quickly, even coming up with some cute ideas for poses himself.

Only regret I have is that we don''t have many of our pictures where we are both looking at the camera. Even though we love a candid photojournalistic style, we don''t have a ton to choose from in terms of giving my grandmothers, etc, some pics to keep around the house (cause I don''t think they want the picture of us making out against the barn door

). Good luck with your pics, and make sure to come share them!

If your photog is good, they''ll make you feel comfortable. As for the posing/not posing, ask if they''ll give at least some direction. Like, look here, kiss, run away...that kind of thing. It was so much fun for us! Good luck!

This is one of the major reasons to have an engagement photo shoot. It will help you get comfortable with your photographer, and you''ll get the hang of it in no time.

Thanks!

Stephbolt...love your pics by the way.

Felt silly for being nervous but wanted to find out about your experiences. I''m sure it''ll be a lot less awkward then I''m imagining. Like you guys said, the photographer will make us feel comfortable and I''m sure he''s used to working with couples who aren''t sure what to do. I''m excited to do it and can''t wait to see the results.

It was pretty awkward for us at the beginning too, but that is part of the reason you do epics, so you are comfortable having your pic taken and working with your photographer BEFORE you get to the wedding day! Our photographer was pretty much like "just pretend that I am not here and you are just hanging out with each other) We still kind of uncomfortable but by the end we were fine.

Thanks Morgie!

Yeah, you''re right...definitely good practice for the big day!
