Did you do this? How soon did you do this? How much did you spend? I''m just starting to look around at photographers. So far I have been quoted $250 outdoor, $100 in studio, and another one was $450 with pics all over NY.

We opted not to do them, we just couldn''t justify the extra spending, the wedding is ending up being much more than we expected and we have enough great pics of ourselves to use for the engagement annoucement and save the dates.

BUT - many people DO do them and they always looks awesome! i say if you can afford it, do it~!

Our photographer included them in her wedding package. I really didn't want to do them since it was so close to our wedding, but since they were included, we did. I'm glad I did, spending the afternoon with my photographers helped me get comfortable with their style, directions, and attempting to act normal with them around. We both felt a lot more relaxed and comfortable with them as our photographers for our wedding than we did for the photographers we used for our second wedding.

We did our engagement photos about 2 months before the wedding. She usually has them done sooner, but we booked her last minute when our original photographer canceled on us.

I think ours are $350, but that is in addition to our wedding package. I imagine if we were doing them separate the price would be higher. I''m not even sure he''s offers them separately.

I would shop around, but $450 for all over NY doesn''t sound bad to me, if you''re looking to spend that kind of money. We are ok with $350 because we''ll be getting the proofs. I don''t plan on purchasing my prints from the photog.

We didn''t do any official ones yet but our photographer said that he''d do a few at our venue for us nearer the time of the wedding. He''s including it in his price that we''re paying for the wedding photos.

If you haven''t booked your photographer yet, I would recommend adding it on to your wedding package, if it is not already included. On that note, its not to early to book a great photographer b/c they book quikcly and far in advance.

As a side note, I would say that if the engagement session is not included, try to get in thrown in because A) It never hurts to ask B) If they say no, maybe they will throw in something else for free instead

And just to let you know, we were looking at 2 photogs and they only difference was the engagement session was included with one and the other didn''t include it. We liked the one who didn''t include it, so we asked her to throw it in the package price, and she did.

NOTE: Not to threadjack, but helpful advice to all: never be afraid to ask for a discount or some extra thing included. The worst they can say is no, and the best that can happen is that you get a better deal! However, don''t ask for an insulting offer, ie $1000 off a $2000 package, b/c that''s just in bad taste...

Our engagement photos were also included as part of our package for the wedding. It has already been mentioned but since my fiance and I aren''t used to getting our pictures taken all the time it was a great opportunity to meet with our photographer and work with her.

We are in NYC too and if we were to do our seperatley it would have been $500 with the digital images included in the package. That would be important to make sure what you are getting for what you are paying. Some don''t include the images and are done seperatley.

Who have you looked at so far?

thanks for the advice! the problem is that we are getting married in CA and using a photographer there, but we live around NY!! so we can''t really include it in a package. I guess I will keep shopping around! My fiance and I are both from small towns and so we need the engagement photo to put in the paper :)

Well in that case then I would book the cheapest one local. Our engagment pics are awesome however I didn''t use them for the paper. We used a candid picture rather than one of our engagment posed shots. We are using our engagement photos at our wedding...haven''t figured out for what yet but I will be getting use out of them. Our photographer is angelica glass. There are so many good photographers in nyc though.

We used Tony Yang, a photographer in NYC. We chose to do our photos in central park, but he will do them anywhere!

It was $450 for I think 3 hrs, 10 retouched prints and the entire CD of pictures.... there were SO many! We did it a year before our wedding, but our STDs had to go out in the 9 months before the event because we are having a destination wedding.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Engagement photos were included with my wedding photography package. I wouldn''t have opted for them if they weren''t. They''re nice, but IMO not important enough to spend the money if it''s not part of the package.

I am in the same situation, I will be getting married in California but I live in Canada. I am in the process of looking for a photographer for our engagement pictures and from where I am starting packages are around $300CAD. We also need a picture for our local paper
