Hello all,

A friend of mine gave her boy an engagement gift (a pocket watch engraved with initials & date) shortly after he gave her the ring. Have any of you ever done anything like that? Or do you have any good ideas about a boy engagement gift? I''ve been engaged for a couple weeks but would like to give him something nice too since he did such a FANTASTIC job on the ring.

Yup. I actually gave DH a ring for our engagement as well. He already had a nice watch from his mother, so I figured if I got one, he should, too.

*M*

my wife gave me a really nice watch that has the Cubs logo and says Chicago in the middle. It''s probably my favorite gift I''ve got in a very long time. I needed a watch because I never wore one, but now that I have it if I don''t have it on I feel really weird.

My FI is not into jewelry, so a watch/ring/etc. was out of the question for his engagement gift. I ended up getting him a PSP (which hardly measures up to a ring, but it was something he wanted)!

I saw a post a while back from a woman who gave her FI a flat-screen TV, and another who gave him a diamond stud earring. It all kind of depends what kind of guy your FI is and what he''s interested in!

Mine is getting a custom made fancy drum as soon as I get around to ordering it!

I was going to get my FI a watch he's always admired, but it's very expensive so I couldn't get it right now. Then he ended up choosing the most expensive wband he could have possibly found so I feel okay about no e-gift. But at some point I'm going to splurge and get him that watch..Someday...if only because he gets me the nicest gifts.

I bought FI a new SLR digital camera.

He doesn''t wear watches or jewellery and needed a new camera.

There are a few of us around here who gave tvs. My FI was SO excited when I told him I was getting him a flatscreen tv, but it was definitely good for both of us because I get to watch it too AND we got 6 square feet back in our living room because we got rid of the cabinet the old tv was on.

I got him a watch as his wedding present.

I'm one of the TV people too! Except that I've been an income-less student for the past 2 years, so I kept delaying it and delaying it (much to DH's dismay), until my parents finally bought it for us as a wedding present.

Worked out quite nicely for everyone, really.

FYI, anyone interested in doing the TV -- our 42" Panasonic is AMAZING. I never used to understand what the big deal was with HD TV... sometimes I saw a difference, usually not. But this thing is unreal... often we find ourselves (and the cat) just staring enraptured at the screen during underwater scenes on the Discovery channel, or close-ups of baseball players, or Pantene commercials, or whatever...

Cats and tv are great.

I had a kitten years ago who was on my knee watching a cookery programme. They were frying up pieces of chicken. He jumped off my knee and went up and tried to pull the pieces out of the television. When that didn''t work he jumped on top and was trying to get his paws down the back!

If I hadn''t seen it with my own eyes I would never have believed it possible. I mean, there was no smell, he could just hear the sound of frying and see the pieces - and this wasn''t a cat that spent a lot of time watching people cook! I''d have killed for a videocamera at that moment.

He was one smart cat - I found him as a tiny thing being abused by some kids. I confiscated him and brought him home. Sadly he disappeared a few years later and I never found him again.

My FI loves the Beatles and the Red Sox, so I decided to get him some sort of autographed item related to one of those things. I ended up getting him this rare Beatles book signed by his favorite Beatle, George Harrison. He loved it!

Ephem.. I totally should have waited him out... but we ended up getting a really good deal so it wasn''t too bad at the time. He had to wait about 4 months, but I waited a long time for that ring!!

We have the 50" Panasonic and it is completely wonderful! HD is truly awesome and thanks to DirecTV we have a lot of HD channels. My cat seriously watches tv too. We have little cube ottomans and she''ll sit on one and stare right up at the screen. She especially likes the crawler on news channels, but I saw her watching fish one day.

Another tv person here! FI kept saying I should just get him a ps3, but I know he would''ve bought one as soon as they came out whether or not we were engaged, so I decided to go with the tv. He had to wait about 5 months for it (had to go on sale and we had to wait for Best Buy to have one of their no interest deals). He loves the tv. We got a Samsung 56" dlp. I love the tv too :)

hi there,

i got my hubby a tag heuer watch a few weeks after our engagement. needless to say, he was thrilled with it and it''s nice that he has something from me to wear everyday, just like i do with my ring

I plan on getting my man either a Breitling watch or a very nice road bicycle. He''s wanted a Tag forever, and we asked our jeweler about watches and she introduced him to Breitling and he was in love. BUT, he''s also wanted a new bicycle for years, but since we have about five between us he can''t find it in himself to shell out another couple grand for a new one. I''ll make a decision by the time he proposes.

You know your man best, get him something utterly appropriate to his taste.

My FI wants a Wii for his engagement gift. I would''ve liked to surprise him but that usually doesn''t work out. I haven''t gotten it for him yet though

A week after our engagement we were in a motorcycle accident and I''ve been dealing with loads of out of pocket expenses in the time being *sigh*

In any case, he got really excited about it (the Wii), however, typical him, he went and starting looking for deals on them online!!!! Pssh.. ah well. Sorry for the long reply :) The point of this was....I''ll be getting him a Wii system, extra remotes and a couple of games that I know he''ll love. :D

Well, I think I''ve decided that a pocket watch would be a nice engagement present for the FI. (I managed to finagle it into the conversation, funny enough.) It seemed like something that would be special, could be engraved, and could be passed on to the next generation. He''s not always the fancy dress type, but every once in awhile we do something special (and there''s always the wedding!), so it seemed like a good idea and his hints were positive. Does anyone have any specific recommendations? I was surprised at stopping by a few jewelry stores over the weekend and finding little to nothing!

I bought the Fiance a watch and had the date (of the proposal) engraved on the band. It''s quite simple and he pikced it out. He lost his watch so he needed a new one. I asked him first and he told me that I didn''t have to buy him anything but he''d love a watch and would love to have it engraved with the date! He loves the "dates" of things in our relationship.

More than likely, the date of the wedding will be engraved on the wedding band.

I bought my FI a truck... well actually I leased it for him. I tease him that it is his engagement present... teasing because I would have gotten it for him anyway, just so happened the timing worked out LOL.

I''d never really heard of giving the guy an engagement gift before I came across this forum. I didn''t get any sort of "engagement" gift for my then FI. But he didn''t seem to expect me to. I have talked about buying him a nice TV, but he STILL hasn''t chosen one. It wouldn''t be an engagement/wedding gift though, more of a "just cause" thing.

I got mine a Nintendo Wii. He doesn''t wear jewelry except a watch (and he already has a really nice one from his parents). I figure it''s something he will love that''s reasonably "couple-y"!
