Engagement Ring Nightmares

Hi LIWs,

So you know how a few of us have posted over this forum's history.. about being so obsessed that we DREAM of our engagement rings? And then sometimes have nightmares?

I mentioned it either here on PS, or on FB, I forget where.. but a few weeks ago, my DBF had a nightmare about our engagement ring! HE's become obsessed! Which has only made me more obsessed… but yes. One thing I've been very nervous about is the width of the halo on my ring that's being made. Which freaks me out because I don't know where that fine line stands where it's halo-y and where it becomes cluster-y.

DBF has taken it to a whole new level. He had a nightmare that when he went to pick it up, the halo's stones were bigger than the center stone itself!






I think it's hilarious that he's getting so enthralled by this process, and by the ring.. and I think it's cute, sort of.



So now we're both super nervous. I just want the wait to be over!

I had a nightmare about my ring after we had purchased it, but before my husband had presented it to me. It's an antique, so the prongs had to be rebuilt when we got it. I dreamt that the prongs were enormous after retipping, and were just covering the diamond in the most ridiculous way. I woke up so scared about my poor ring! It was one of those dreams that you have right on the cusp of waking up, and I couldn't tell if it was a dream or not. I had to get up and go sneak a look at my ring before I could calm down. (I'm such a dork). I did have some other nightmares about my ring, but that's the only one that has stuck with me.

I have not said it before but this is my 2nd time as an LIW my 1st go around was a few years back . While my engagement ring was being made i was crazy to say the least i just wanted it to be perfect . I am a micro manager if i could have made my own ring i would have lol , dreams of too much metal work, prongs instead of claws in some i hated the setting all together . I would email the jeweler pictures of what i wanted exactly as i wanted it if the dream made me angry. The ring i ended up getting was beautiful , it had prongs but it was nice.

Soon enough that beautiful ring will be on your finger and you will love it

I can tell you I did not have ering nightmares. I think because I didn't have my ering custom made that I knew what I was getting, so I didn't have to worry over it. I did have a ton of wedding nightmares though.

madelise, I think it's so cute and hilarious that your BF has had nightmares about the ring!

I have had my fair share of engagement ring nightmares! I haven't had any recently though. Most of them are that the ring turns out hideously ugly, has huge prongs, or that the stone falls out all the time, etc.

I have been having wedding nightmares though, even though I'm not even engaged yet! I always have nightmares that it is the day of the wedding and there are major things I have forgotten to plan. Or that I'm extremely late to the wedding (I hate being late!).

Mico - you're lucky. I wake up in sweats and dizziness when I get an engagement ring nightmare! I've once dreamt that the diamonds all cracked, and broke off and fell out of the setting within seconds of me getting it!!!

Kefira - lol! I'd be just as nervous for the jewelers to fix something! and I'd prob go search the drawers too!!

BQ - yes, I've totally been micromanaging the process.. and I still feel like it's not enough! I wish I could be there, and be a part of the actual physical process!! Heck, move over, I want to make it!!

GemAnemone - lol LIW or not, you're still welcome to always chime in!! I think you're spot on. It may be because it's custom work.. if it was a branded line, I'd already know what it'd look like in the end! Care to share any silly wedding nightmares? I also get wedding nightmares, and I'm not even engaged yet! I always get some nightmare or another of my wedding being awkward and boring, and people leaving.. literally a tumbleweed will blow through, and my throat won't let me say a word.

Sometimes I had dreams that would keep me up all night trying to DIY something for the wedding. It was always fuzzy in the dream what I was making but I kept trying to finish over and over and never got it done!

The worst dream was a couple months before the wedding and in the dream my fiance told me he changed his mind and didn't want to get married to me. I started screaming at him and hitting him like a psycho saying "I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DID THIS TO ME!! I'VE NEVER BEEN SO EMBARRASSED" etc etc. He would never do that so the dream was just super weird.

Another bad dream (yes I had them a lot!) was of the day of the wedding. The DJ pronounced our new last name wrong, like, three times when he announced us for the grand entrance into the reception. Can you say awkward?? Then we walked in and my DH sat with his friends instead of me. I had to sit at a friend table and not even at the head table! Again there was a bunch of me crying in the dream.

I swear I almost went nuts planning that wedding. But it's all over now and it went beautifully and we are happily together! LOL!

I guess I never had e-ring dreams because it seemed to go by so fast once the sapphire was picked out, but I did have a wedding dress nightmare.

In real life I got a call from the dress shop that my dress was in and because they were in the middle of wedding season so if I could pick it up as soon as possible they would greatly appreciate it. My mother wanted to go with me to pick it up so she could help me look at the dress and make sure nothing was wrong, torn, missing etc. so I had to wait until our schedules meshed until we could go.

In the meantime, dumb me decided THEN To look up reviews on the dress shop instead of before actually going so I started reading this thread on yelp on a very unhappy customer. So that night I dreamt that we finally went to go pick up the dress but they told me that I came too late and they assumed I didn't want the dress anymore and had sold it the day before to another bride at half price. I woke up SO scared! I made my mother go with me the next day and even driving over to the dress shop I was SOO anxious even though I knew they had it!

If the e-ring nightmares are like any other wedding/engagement type nightmare they must be horrible! But on the other hand, I cannot WAIT TO SEE YOUR RING MADELISE! IT's going to be so gorgeous!!!

GemAnemone - Omygosh, lol!! Ah I can totally see that happening. Every little negative thought I get ends up turning into a nightmare, I swear. I'm glad you made it out alive through all the planning and nightmares. Haha, I get some dreams (wedding and non-wedding related) where I am so upset, and it seems so real when I wake up that I'm crying IRL, and bawling for a few minutes still in my half-asleep/half-awake stage. I've woken up beating up SO! I forget what the dream was about, but I totally socked him a couple times. He always laughs about it b/c I hold whatever dream version of him does against real life version for a few minutes.

Rebecca - Oh that's so smart to bring someone along to spot check the dress for uglies! I actually just had a non formal wedding dress (think garden type) purchased online, and when it shipped here, there was a big ugly grey stain on the bottom! I didn't even notice it for a while because it was on the under layer.. but the top layers were opaque so you can totally see it! Sent that doozy back! Haha that's so funny that the nightmare made you force your mom to meet up sooner, though. And thank you, I can't wait to see it either! And I really don't know how long I'll have to wait for it! EEK! Stupid boy won't gimme a timeline

OMG totally had one last night.

I woke up at 5:30a this morning practically in tears because it felt so real. In the dream I'd gotten engaged and it was with *our* ring which was wonderful and I loved it. I was hanging out with my friend K and our doggies were playing.

I have no idea why it wasn't on my finger, but for some reason I was admiring my ring by holding the bottom of the shank between my thumb and pointer finger and my friend's dog thought it was a doggie treat and snatched it in her mouth! She bit down on it hard and it cracked my diamond into three pieces and dented the setting.

I was so upset that we had to get up out of bed and look at the ring to make sure it was still okay.

Oh, I had something like this last night. I woke up in quite a tizzy.

It was our wedding day, but it was about 15 minutes before the ceremony started and I realized I hadn't put on my makeup or done my hair so I'm running around for that, then I realize we never bought each other's wedding rings!!!! So I'm asking people for a ring to borrow to use as a stand-in for the ceremony, but everyone's rings are waaaay too big. Like... You could fit two fingers in them. Then I see my engagement ring on my hand and it's nothing like what I want. A little purple, round, bezel set stone in white gold and it's sooo dirty!! So I panic. ROFL! And I woke up thinking "OH man have I gotta fix my ring!! Oh wait.... no ring yet. Ok then." and I went back to sleep.

But that's the first wedding/ring/engagement dream. It was a doozy too.

The best part is that it took place in the church my friend got married in this past June where I was a bridesmaid.

I'm debating whether or not to tell J about this dream. I'm sure he'd just tease me for it mercilessly.

how funny our brains work! I hope all the nightmares means all the bad juju got "used up" in our dreams, and won't interrupt our waits/relationships! Is that how the idea of karma works? We suffer enough in nightmares, so we should have a better real life experience??

I've had e-ring nightmares before, but I could never remember them well after awakening.
Well, the one I had last night was memorable! lol

I had a dream my SO finally proposed to me & I was wearing the ring while visiting an acquaintance who just gave birth & has a large, nice ring.

Seeing her ring made me realize I had a beauty of my own. When I looked down at my finger I saw something to the effect of these rings below. The shank in my nightmare was 2mm, making the ring look like a huge plate on my finger. lol. Also there was even more metal going through the diamonds to cut the frame into 4 clusters that were clustered into one giant plate! To make it worse, the stones were horribly tinted yellow, poorly included, cloudy & dull! I died on the inside.




Now, this is not to knock anyone's tastes. However, given that my ring is already made & is a totally different style, I was devastated. lol

I told my friend about the dream (she knows about the ring). I told her I was mad at her puppy and she said I can't be mad at her over something that happened in my head, lol. I disagree! (kidding, of course!). She did say though that after we get engaged that she will make sure her little pooch steers clear of the sparkles! Hah.

I can't remember specifics, but they are all about surprise proposals while I'm 'not ready' - I haven't showered in two days, I look like a hot mess, I'm scrubbing the kitchen floor, etc. They are sneaking into my awake-conscious now, and I have had fleeting nerves as I open the front door to our house in case my SO is on bended knee in the living room! Why on earth I think he would propose on a Tuesday night after work as I carry in grocery bags I do not know!

Of course if any of that did happen.. it wouldn't even matter! Perspective, I have it! I think.

Behold the power of suggestion, I had my first engagement ring nightmare last night! I woke up in the middle of the night and thought to myself 'I really should write this down so I can tell the LIW's' - and of course I didn't, and have forgotten the details.

I have been borderline obsessing over finding an EC solitaire setting I like, and I think that too set me off!
