Dear all, a follow up on this thread when I showed the results of my months-long sapphire hunt and received so many helpful and wonderful comments! https://www.pricescope.com/communit...e-also-vendor-review-and-appreciation.270242/
I know that I get left hanging when I read threads that do not show the completed piece after all the hassle of finding a gemstone.
So after I had officially received the ring, I knew I had to update in Pricescope, since it's a place that I had benefitted much from during my search!
My fiancé (heh) and I had actually marked down a date on the calendar for when he would propose.
May I present the debut of Zilan (the sapphire):
The pretty 2.52 ct Ceylon Sapphire debutted in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, during a Picnic. She was accompanied by 0.25 carat diamonds on each side, tapering down to 0.13 diamonds. All natural diamonds, E, VS1 and Hearts and Arrows(?), I'm not very knowledgeable about diamonds.
This is her in her box.
This is her amongst some blueberries and cheese.
Trying to capture her in diffused sunlight the next day
Direct sunlight. I must say, the diamonds are really sparkly!
Under lamplight.
Galley work. I had preferred a trellis setting but perhaps this low setting is better for the clumsy me!
There's a Ruby on the bridge, as it's my birthstone. The other side has a diamond on the bridge as it is his birthstone, and uses a diamond from my mother's wedding band!
Smaller diamonds re-purposed from my mother's jewellery.
=======
Having spent months ruminating and flip-flopping between intricate details, in the end I chose to go with a five stone design. The "wall of bling" that my shiny-loving heart desired.
With some of the comments of the previous thread, we did consider pears at first, but I realised it might be harder to find pears that fit on my finger. We tried to search for lab-grown diamonds but they were *gasp* more expensive/similar prices from natural ones in smaller sizes!
The shank wasn't the textured or engraved finish that I was drawn to, it's high polish which was something I initially really didn't like, although the jeweller had recommended high polish to set off the sapphire. But I've come round to it and I'll just wait for the patina to form with age (should I try 'scratching' my shank to hasten the process? ) and I guess the shiny bright polish does fit the sparkle of the diamonds and sapphire, it's a classic look! Fiancé got me a platinum ring as he was afraid that I'll get allergies.
Overall I'm satisfied with the ring bling! I know it can be hard to incorporate the features I wanted, so we'll let the gemstones be the stars of the show for the engagement ring.
Though I do get self-conscious about how sparkly it can be, since in my part of the world, engagement rings are less flashy.
Now on to wedding band shopping! I hope to incorporate the organic elements that I wanted this time in the wedding ring! I love those textured finishes on rings, florentine finish, organic elements etc that makes the ring look 'alive'.
However I'm also torn between sparkly diamond eternity bands
I'm wondering if the mixed metal stack would be nice, eg. Yellow gold wedding band and platinum engagement ring?
Or will the platinum scratch the gold? Decisions decisions
