EPIC proposal stories...

I get kind of sad watching these :/ it sure as hell puts a heckuvalot of pressure on the boys to "beat out the rest" vs. doing something heartfelt and "him". I don't know if I'd ever share my story in a video on youtube, for millions of people to compare to and compete with.

Some couples like "over the top". I do. :naughty: :naughty:   ;)) ;))

Some couples like simple and understated.. and very "them".

a la Kenny, "people vary." I think these video posts of "epic" and "best" proposal "ever" has changed the proposing dynamic a bit. There are both good and bad consequences.

There's one particular younger girl who is WAY too young and inexperienced to even be thinking of these things :!: :!: :!: who swears her BF is the best in the whole wide world, and posts these things on FB for everyone to see, tagging her BF in it. She then comments, "you better do something better than this!" I can see myself doing something similar, like sending one of my absolute FAVORITES to my SO and saying "wow honey, watch this!" but I'd never tell him "you'd better do something 100x better than this!" or the like. Well, maybe jokingly, but definitely not seriously.

Have you guys seen the one youtube video of the guy proposing with a flashdance? He started off the proposal by having a girl come in and splash water on him and yell at him for being with his GF (acting like she dated him and was shocked to find out he had a GF). It was a way for him to "escape" from the GF to get ready for the proposal. I think it's titled something like "best proposal ever" or some crap. I was absolutely APPALLED. He tried so hard to be over the top for her, but geez, he really hurt her emotions in the beginning! I'd never say "yes" to a proposal that started off with me crying from distress! Tears on a proposal day should be happy tears!

what is wrong with me, i'm an emotional ball of mush over here!

:wavey:

I saw that lip-dub proposal sometime last week (prior to being posted on PS) and i immediately posted it to my FB because i'm such a sap it made me teary eyed. My status said how "proof that a good proposal doesn't cost any money"! Then of course i get some of my male friends saying comments like "well the ring costs money!" and all my close girlfriends saying they were crying ha ha. Anyways, SO had texted me that he had watched it on his iphone and how "men like him are ruining everything. i need to go find him and tell him not to post that crap online!" haha. He was obviously kidding and he said it was a very creative way to propose then went on about how he's not creative like that....then i felt bad because in his head he's probally thinking "crap, now if i dont do something like that shes gonna say no" - - which is TOTALLY not the case. I just explained how i just want thought put into it...and i was just saying how this video proves that $$ does not equal an awesome proposal! I digress.

I do not have video, but have seen many proposals at red sox games. While i'm a HUGE fan, i'm not into "THAT" grand of a gesture (jumbo tron...oh boy).

One of the best proposals was at a maroon 5/Train concert. (don't judge me) Obviously the song "MARRY ME" is like everyone's wedding engagement blah blah song...but the lead singer does a lot of audience interaction the entire concert. During that song he was just walking around shaking hands and then just stops in the middle of the song and says how "this guy really needs to say something to his gf". So he finds him in the audience (somewhere near the back of the theater) and the guy gets down, and they have HER face on the screen, and he tells her the cutest little things i have ever heard, and the entire theater was silent you could hear a pin drop, and then shes crying...crap i think every girl in there was crying...she says yes and he picks up in the middle of the song and they danced together in the aisle as he was singing to them.

Crap. I'm crying again.

My poor BF is SCREWED!

That lip dub one is impressive, I am majorly impressed by his ingenuity! It's sweet that he got ultra creative and did something very unique and probably a reflection of themselves! Made my day!

I would say that for some people, these "OTT" types of proposals definitely fit them. I think I read somewhere the lip-dub couple are both theater majors or performers. I don't think I would like the in public proposal (going back to our other thread about dream proposals) but I don't view them as a bad thing...just people being more creative in expressing their love for each other. obviously the recording it for others all over the world and future posterity is a little more of a "look at me, gimme attention" type of thing, but I wouldn't think of it as a gimmick.

I've watched the lip dub one at least 3 times this week already. SO seemed quite unimpressed (just a cover for being terrified). He knows I don't expect anything like that. But he is an artist, so it better be a little creative, at least! ;))
I know I've seen and heard some epic proposal stories throughout the years, I'll have to think about it and come back. I've mentioned it before, but if anyone ever saw that TLC show Perfect Proposal - wow! Those were some memorable and elaborate schemes.

I found the one I was looking for - a friend sent this to me awhile back, apparently she knows someone who knows the couple. The guy spent quite a long time putting this all together:

1. i'm a sap
2. FF is wondering where i'm coming up with all of these things

Ladies! Thanks for sharing. I haven't gotten a chance to watch these and read all the post yet, but I promise I will in the next couple days. My Mimi is having surgery today and we've had several vet appointments this week so I've been a little hectic between that and work being crazy.

Keep 'em coming!

I did see that one. It was posted somewhere on PS too, I think. I thought it was awful. He could have had a waiter "spill" wine on his shirt and gotten away to change just as easily without upsetting her.

But what was worse was that he turned it into we're getting married right *now*. No time to process just having gotten engaged at all. And in an AWFUL oversized dress that they didn't even close up and just threw over what she was wearing. Terrible.

But I agree, these do make guys feel like they have to do this awesomely epic thing or they'll get a no. So not true. For me, personally, simple, heartfelt, and *us* is the name of the game.

This is the one I was talking about. I think we're talking about the same one.

The commentary is a little dull, but the idea is pretty awesome!
Cute idea. SOOO many roses. Seemed a little awkward that he didn't have a little speech before hand. Just walked out, took the ring out of his pocket, dropped to one knee, and asked. After all the build up I was expecting a little more.

Aww. I cried too. Anyone notice the song at the end was the same as the lip dub proposal?
