I was going through the Introduce Yourself thread and noticed that not only do you live in Michigan, but you''re "a Wolverine going incognito" in one of your pictures. I''m actually moving to Ann Arbor sometime around June 2-4. I''m not sure what part of Michigan you live in, but if you live somewhere in the vicinity, would you want to try to get together at some point? I think it could be a lot of fun. It also seems like we might both be engaged (knock on wood) by the time I move, so we could even shop for wedding dresses or something.

I wonder if there are any other Michiganers on here. Is that the right word, by the way? I need to learn these things.

Blenheim - AWESOME idea for an MI get-together. I hope we can arrange something and make that happen this summer. Of course, all Michigander LIWs would be welcome.

Let''s talk more as the summer gets closer. Teaching will be over for me by mid-June but then I will have Masters classes starting up. You''ll also have a better idea of when at that time as well, I would think.

I was a UofM grad (Flint Campus) and now I actually live in the Metro Detroit area. The tailgating picture was taken at MSU, which is about an hour and a half from me. I think Ann Arbor is also about that far away from here. Lots of places here, there, or in between to meet.

Also, BONUS for you - there is a new IKEA store opening in Canton, MI this June, not far from where you''ll be. Cool home furnishings, anyone? Yes, please!

haha... Is it really called *Michigander?* That makes me think of a goose and gander type of thing. Too funny!

Ikea! Atlanta has an Ikea now, and Paul *so* did not understand the excitement over it. Cali has something like 3, maybe more by now, and I used to live in Orange county, so there were two that were near. I can''t wait to have an Ikea close by again. Now, where''s my dang ring, again?

Oh, if you all got together by summertime, the two of you would likely already be engaged!! You could oogle over each other''s sparkle factor! Such fun!

Fishie - I know, boys SO do not understand or experience the joys of IKEA like us Ladies do.

I just got my very first apartment (first time out on my own) last August, and I cannot tell you how disappointed I was that the IKEA that will be closest would not be open yet. I really wanted to go down and see a few things in person that I liked online, but the closest open IKEA is in Chicago area, and that is a bit of a haul for browsing *3 hours*. Pier 1 and Target and KMart were acceptable substitutes though.

I hope we do get to squee over engagements together when Blenheim comes up here.

I know my BF is sooooo close, and "girl soon" is making me very excited. I *think* I may even know the exact day, but there are still other possibilities so I could be surprised too. May is a big month for us as a couple this year, lots of special events. My coworkers were teasing me about doing a betting pool for this!

May 2- My birthday.
May 7- His last law school exam.
May 14- His MSU Law graduation.
May 18- Our four year anniversary.
May 20- His graduation open house.

My birthday is not likely. He has said he doesn''t have a present for me yet, and he has an exam on that day, so I don''t think that will be it. I am not 100% positive, but I am thinking that it will be on or very close to May 18. A lot of his family and friends and a majority of my immediate family will be present at the open house on the 20th. What better time to celebrate a newly engaged couple than at a large get together with all families in attendance?

BF has been saying "before June" for a few months now, and I can''t wait. He has a horrible time keeping secrets, especially from me, so I don''t think he has a ring yet. I think it may be picked out or being made or on deposit somewhere, but it''s not actually in his hot little hands yet. I can''t see him choosing to have that added "stress" during exam time.

Wow, that''s close! How exciting. I''m hoping for May, too.

This is silly, but in my family, we celebrated 1/2 birthdays. Mostly because I''m such a spaz about birthdays and celebrations and presents and cards, the countdown, and all that fun hoopla...

Anyway, Paul was introduced to 1/2 birthdays this past year, and he thinks it''s just the oddest, cutest things. For birthdays, we do a cake. For 1/2 birthdays, cupcakes. You know, not as blown up. Anyway, in October he celebrated his first 1/2 birthday. My half birthday is May 26. Originally we''d been talking April, but that''s a *no go* now, and prayerfully, May it will be. That''d be a *smashing* good 1/2 birthday surprise!

June 3 is our *official* anniversary. I *H*A*T*E to think of it going beyond that date. We plan on marrying in October, and while we plan on a smallish church wedding, it still requires *some* planning! And I just can''t start planning stuff without it being *real.* I sometimes feel like I take things too far as it is!

Good luck in May... It''s only a couple days away! Your birthday sits right next to my Paul''s. And my puppy is in that same week, too!

I agree that Michigander makes me think of geese and gander.

I''m getting excited about this. We can definitely figure out details once summer comes. I think that Ann Arbor and Detroit are only about 40 minutes apart. At least, that''s what Mapquest said and I hope that they''re right, because my boyfriend''s planning on making that commute everyday!

And it''s going to be great to have an Ikea nearby. My boyfriend''s still living in the dorms (as his school has a 4-year residency requirement), and so I''m the one with all of the housewares and furniture right now. And since I''m sharing an apartment with another girl, I only have about half of the things.

Detroit and Ann Arbor are not even 40 minutes apart, I have made that drive countless times, I am from right outside of Detroit and in high school I had a boyfriend at U of M, I don''t know about with traffic but that drive is nothing.

Are you still in that area, Diamonds? If so, you could all three do an Ikea run!

No I don''t live there anymore

Bummer, Diamonds! Could''ve been a good time...

Blenheim -

I did some checking into distance too. From where I am now (Madison Heights) and including construction it is about an hour to Ann Arbor. I will possibly be moving closer to Ann Arbor in the next few months. BF has a law job he will be starting after the bar this summer, and he will be working in Farmington Hills. I may move to be closer to that city so he and I can share a pad.

We have a similar furnishing situation. I have an apartment and have a large amount of housewares already, more than him since he has shared dorms and apartments and has done so for all seven years of college. There are still a few things we will need to get everything settled, though. We will both have to make Bed Bath and Beyond our best pal for a while.
