Hi everyone,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I recently proposed to my fiance but alas the ring was too small to get on her finger

Although I knew the correct size and ordered the correct size, a mistake was made and her ring is actually 2.5 sizes too small.....

Obviously I need to talk with the jeweller about rectifying the situation but I wanted some thoughts regarding what to ask for. My concern is that if the the ring was resized up 2.5 sizes that the integrity of the ring would be compromised.

It is a hand made platinum ring, round halo style with pave diamonds that go around 1/2 of the band. It also has 2 secret stones (1 peridot and 1 amethyst) that are on the inside of the band.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would insist that the ring be completely remade. It was their error. It cannot be sized up that much. If they won't do that, I'd get a refund.

I am so sorry that happened. I am sure it was disappointing!

Thanks diamondseeker2006,

I was thinking that would be the case but with no knowledge of these things I wanted to be well informed.

Yes it was definitely disappointing. I thought I had been so clever and thought of everything! Anyway, she said yes and that's what matters most.

Thanks again.

Congratulations, of course!!!!

They will probably say they can resize it, but it will not be the same. So I, personally, would only accept it being remade. Do you have the size documented in writing on a receipt or something? I just hope they acknowledge the error.

Thank you.

Yes, I made sure I had everything in writing for a "just in case scenario" just like this one so I think the only real issue will be what they suggest to rectify it.

Maybe one of the jewellers visiting PS would be able to add their comment.......

Regards.

I don't think you'll find any consumer here who has had jewelry custom made that would accept a ring that was 2 1/2 full sizes off without having it remade. I'd want it remade if there were no diamonds on the shank, but with diamonds, it would be essential to me. I do hope a jeweler chimes in. On the positive side, they did a nice job with the setting, and you were smart to have it all in writing!

This for sure ^^^^^

Thanks Candygrl and diamondseeker2006 for your responses.

Some updated information:

1. I spoke with 2 local jewellers today. They both re-measured the ring (to make sure I wasn't losing my mind) and they confirmed that the ring is size J and not L1/2. One told me that a resize would not be a problem at all. The other wasn't so sure, particularly given it is platinum and because of the hidden stones.

2. I received a response from the place that made the ring. I was told that the jeweller said it was made to the correct size! What?...... What?.... I guess they need to see the ring to be certain I'm not crazy too :o

I was hoping for at least a small apology...... :angryfire: :nono:

They have offered to resize and assured me that the integrity would not be affected in any way.

Any jeweller that can add some advice here would be much appreciated.

Regards.

Go back to the original jeweler that made the ring. They are the one that messed up. If you have anyone else touch it, and something goes wrong, you are out of luck and the original maker may say it is someone else's fault.

I would buy a cheap plastic mandrel sizer and send a pic showing what size it is on the mandrel, if you are working long distance. Or you can go visit the maker in person.

Thanks pregcurious,

I will definitely get them to fix / remake the ring. I'm just getting thoughts from independent jewellers about what they would do..

Thanks for your interest.

I'm so sorry this happened! (but at least she said yes!!) :))

Either they don't know what they're talking about (which I doubt), or they don't want to remake it. I would definitely have them remake it, since it was obviously an oversight on their part.
