I''m hoping you guys will be able to help me out.

We are looking to spend around $4000.00 on my ering. I know this might not seem like much, but we''re a firefighter and a teacher- and I''m alright with this.
We''re starting to shop around, and the prices I am seeing are completely scattered.
I really like either a marquis or a pear shaped stone- I''m not a big fan of solitaires, so I''m looking for more of a set.
I''m looking around .70 carat for the center stone.
We looked at Jared- and when I found out they were IGI cert., I was told by many to stay away!
Now we''re looking at private jewelers, and everything seems so expensive.

I''m the sort of person that will not change my ring- the sentimental value means too much to me.

Do any of you have any advice or experiences to share with me?
I know I must sound like a complete idiot- but there is just so much to learn!
If anyone is in the Chicago area and can give me a reference, I''d appreciate it!!!

Hey, Welcome

Check with some of the PS vendors. You could probably get yourself a fabulous set.
Let them know what you are looking for and they''ll do the work for ya!

First of all, I think $4000 is a great budget. It might seem small by PS standards but don''t be shy about it!!

You will find something perfect for you and beautiful.

What I''ve learned from PS is that I would rather use one of the online PS vendors than pay the premium for going to a B&M jeweller. (Although it''s definitely worth going to them to see stones/settings in person and do some research.) Personally I plan on using Whiteflash one day but just reading PS you will get an idea of who people recommend, and I think by going through one of them you will get the most for your money. Unfortunately I know nothing about pear or marquise (except that you are picking a great shape because they look bigger for their size, hehe!) but just do a search and read up and I''m sure you''ll learn far more than you ever thought you''d need to know.

Good luck!

I agee with Indecisive, you will get much more for your money if you go with one of the p.s. vendors. My boyfriend just purchased an e-ring for me (have seen it, but it hasn''t been given to me yet). Last week we went around to many diffrent jewerley stores to compare prices. My soon-to-be ring has a 1.04 ct , color H, clairty vs1, 1 ct stone rings of less quality were being sold between $5,000 - 7,000 Thats also with the band being white gold, mine is set in platinum and bf told me that he got it for slightly under $4,000, and it''s an absolutly beautiful diamond. That''s a HUGE price diffrence! I would def. suggest going with a p.s. vendor. Keep us informed on how the search goes!
