ESC 2008 finalists

Who is your pick to take out the the title or who would you just like to see win :). Can''t wait to watch the finals tomorrow night :D.

I would be stocked if Serbia won again :)

ETA - the bookies here are tipping Russia (1/4) (an ice skater! skating round the singer on a tiny patch of ice!), Serbia (5/1), Greece (6/1) (BF's particular favourite
20.gif
), Ukraine (9/1) and Armenia (10/1). After that come Sweden, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania, Turkey, Spain, Azerbaiijan, Bulgaria, Poland, Norway, Finland, Latvia, Israel, France, Georgia, and the UK (at 66/1). The rest aren't ranked.

I think my soundcard just pooped it so I can't hear anything *wah*

I wonder if the effect would be the same without sound??

ETA: I would laugh if the UK won :) nice payout if you bet really :)

You don't need sound, trust me

Lorelei I don't know who they are but Ravelry (knitters' / crocheters' social networking site) is gone mad with envy over their giant red-topped knitting needles!

It is a shame your all time favourite song won''t be on Maisie - We Are Brothers Forever.

couldn''t resist.....

Lol!!! I would definitely vote for that!!!!

Spent this evening at a Eurovision Party with a load of Aussies and Kiwi''s (and 2 Americans who seemed rather disturbed by our enthusiasm for such appalling music!)

Thanks for the votes Ireland! (Oh, and San Marino).

Seriously though, the voting is nuts. I think Germany and the UK should pull their funding unless we sort out a decent voring system.

Either than or Scotland, Wales, Cornwall and England should all get separate votes!

(Our entry was seriously BAD though!)

Only 2 more hours and the show begins here :)

So far I have managed to avoid finding out who the winner is *whoot* :D

You sound like my DH!! I don''t get the voting, it drives me mad.

I found out the winner about 30 mins before viewing

was not happy seriously can''t believe that Russia won.

Pandora I actually really liked the UK entry I was bopping along with the best of them :)

I''m sick and tired of the political voting that goes on at Eurovision! It makes me really mad that we come last time after time! I mean what was the French entry all about? It was weird and very surreal! Yet they managed to score more points that we did!! I thought we had a really decent entry this year!

The UK needs to enter as separate countries and stack the votes

it seems to work for half of Europe.

I was actually really surprised that the French entry was in English but it was still way off.

Same old story, however I vaguely remember us winning the Eurovision in 1976 with The Brotherhood of Man

The political voting doesn't bother me really. There was political voting even before the Eastern block joined in the action.

I mean even just culturally it makes sense they'll vote for one another's songs as they are more likely to enjoy the same kind of music. I don't consider it a political jab at the West or our taste in music. There are just more Eastern countries in it now than Western ones! Also, so many Eastern Europeans are living in the West and that influences the voting here because the 'locals' have decided the Eurovision is cheesy and they couldn't be bothered. Just look who Ireland gave the 10 and 12 to - Poland and Latvia!

Maybe because I'm Irish I can smile at the Eastern countries and how excited they are about Eurovision? I remember back in the 80's and 90's when the Eurovision was something Ireland was proud of having achievements in. It was huge here. We couldn't understand how other countries thought it was laughable. And Irishness was somehow trendy it seemed, and all that political voting went in our favour and we loved it! So I can't begrudge the Eastern countries.

I do agree that the old-timers should pull the traditional funding and then everyone who wants to compete would have to contribute equally. Of course, that would also have to mean the end of all free passes into the final. Seems like a fairer way to run the event though, I think.

Oh and my .02c on the results! I didn't like the Russian song, I couldn't make out a word he was singing even though it was in English. I was rooting for the Ukraine, I enjoyed that one. It was stuck in my head and kept me awake, ha ha! I didn't rate the Greek song at all and the singer bugged me no end, I thought she came across as very false in the green room scenes. I also couldn't make out a word the presenters were saying - I'm afraid I had to agree with Terry about the lady's voice!

Did anyone else feel really sorry for the Swedish guy (scroll over to 02:05) calling in their televotes? Poor pet!

ETA - anyone else watching the Nancys tonight? I think Jessie's going home

I missed the Swedish guy the first time but I seriously cacked myself watching that I don''t known if that was a put on or if he was truly nervous.

Terry Wogan is fantastic his commentary makes Eurovision great :).

Terry Wogan is a legend!

I was hoping Latvia would win!

Apparently Terry Wogan is saying he won''t do another Eurovision. He is the main reason I watch it. His comments are always hilarious! It would be very sad if he gave it up, but I can understand why he is fed up. We all are.
