Hi there, I'm trying to buy a diamond engagement ring. Current budget allows for a 1.3ct G VS2

I've been offered this diamond: https://www.gia.edu/UK-EN/report-check?reportno=6461033040

All the online checks look good, the only thing I've been reading is the 59% table might be an issue. Could anyone advise please?

Thanks

Any pictures or videos you can link so we can have a look?

The 59% table may be ok. This stone will be more on the bright side with the low crown/low pavilion. A higher pavilion
would be a better complement to the 34 degree crown.

Hello and welcome to PriceScope, cremj!
Video for this particular diamond:
It appears to have some paddling in this video - darkening of the upper bezel facets around the crown (over the arrowheads patterning).

Thank you. the search continues I guess.

And thanks for sharing the video, I'll add loupe360 to my bookmarks..

Not a fan of this one due to the paddle shapes on the arrows. Op: what is your budget, size, clarity, etc, are you looking for?

UK based. £10K including platinum ring. Minimum 1.3ct, VS2, Triple ex, colour G or better

This diamond was actually offered by a store in Hatton Garden. I'd prefer buying the diamond from a store instead of online, but none have offered me an ideal diamond on paper - seems impossible unless I shop online or just "trust my eyes" ?

Just out of curiosity, not challenging your reason to buy in person, but is there a specific reason. You will be able to get a lot of recommendations here and save the middle man price increase, which may afford a bigger size (if you'd like). I purchased my first diamond in person, my second diamond online, the ability to scour more online and weed through them has allowed me a spectacular stone.

Basically the person you are dealing with in-person is doing the leg work for you by also looking online...

Does your £10K budget for diamond + setting include any VAT/taxes?

I'm leaning towards in-store because we live near the diamond district here and it seems a bit romantic to buy from there, and also somewhere my partner can walk in and service the ring etc.

Also I don't trust myself to be able to purchase something online, but I am open to the idea of course.

The £10K budget is all-in, including VAT/taxes

Also take a look at 77diamonds.com - I believe they have a showroom in London and a few other locations.

Thanks @DejaWiz
I've spent an extensive amount of time searching 77Diamonds and shortlisted a few based on their proportions and being "eye clean". None had ideal dimensions though...

However, my jeweller has come back and found this diamond, at a much lower markup than 77Diamonds, with the luxury of being able to see before I buy.

It looks eye clean and the proportions are in line with guidance I've read. What do you think?.

There's also this but it was a bit more expensive:

And this I disregarded:

Numbers look good on the first two you just posted but we need pictures.

Thank you

Round 1.50 ct F SI1 EX EX EX None:

@DejaWiz please take a look and let me know your thoughts. Much appreciated thank you

Round 1.31 ct G VS2 EX EX EX None:

Looks to have quite a bit of leakage going on under the table, and it looks like the culprit may be an intentionally twisted pavilion.

Round 1.50 ct F SI1 EX EX EX None:

Not liking the darkened facets that I'm seeing around the crown and wisps + clouds + graining = hazy and reduced optical performance.

Thanks @DejaWiz

Are these dealbreakers or still worth viewing the diamonds in the store? Which would be the best of the stones I've shared in this thread?

Ultimately, it seems proportions don’t tell the full picture so I don’t see how I’m going to pick something online from 77Diamonds myself without double-checking here first. Any tips how I can spot some of these issues?

Thanks

The F SI1 may be worth checking out (in a variety of lighting conditions) to check for transparency and optical performance problems.

While you're picking out some nice options, maybe humor yourself a bit and also have a couple/few extremely well cut and proportioned GIA graded LGDs brought in so that you can compare side by side...if (and ONLY if) you are okay with LGD.
77Diamonds - have a look at RBPUIFSGJEEDDWY and RBPUIFSCZFXPUYE

Yep, dont really care for either of those two you just posted videos of. The F/SI1 has
a lot going on but may be eye-clean. Still dont like the cut on it that much though.

Thanks @DejaWiz @tyty333

I've spent a lot of time researching online this evening and found these on my jeweller's database. I've had to lower my carats to find stones with good visuals and proportions for my £10K budget.

Could you please let me know if these diamonds are worth considering?

And this one is a bit out of my budget, but I would consider it if the above are no good:

Thank you again, you guys have been super helpful

I think this is your winner and you should secure it ASAP

Amazing, thank you! I just emailed the jeweller to secure that one for now, and also shared the other 3 in budget (let me know if any to avoid in that list).

Will post an update once I've hopefully got it in my hands :)

Ah the jeweller has come back and said that that stone is already sold or reserved for another person. This is getting tiring.

Any advice on the other 3 please or are they no good? I need to get back to him today

Thank you and fingers crossed again...

Is this one that you posted earlier still available?
I know it's above your budget, but may be worth a closer look.
