Hello all.

Just noticed that I really love the shape of the topmost bit of one of my cheapo pair of earrings and would like to see if I could incorporate it into a custom setting. I took a photo of this shape, but for the life of me can''t figure out how to describe it in order to get any matches on Google Images.

I apologize that the image quality isn''t so hot - this chunk of metal is only about 3 mms or so, very difficult to focus so the general shape outline is recognizable.

Does anyone know of any other pieces of jewellery, maybe even rings, that have this shape incorporated? I''d like to have more photos available to work with. If I use it in the setting, the stone set in the center will be approximately 6-8 points.

Thanks!

Hi JG,

(and ha ha, no I''m not stalking your posts)..
I''m not sure either what exactly you''d call that shape, but the outline does
remind me of a Fleur De Lis, which is used quite alot in jewellery design.

Here is an example in an FDL key design that I am currently having made.

Van Craeynest sometimes use an FDL design in the profiles of their rings, I believe -
I''ve always enjoyed this element.

That design is gorgeous, AJ!! I have a FDL "thing" anyway -- the basket work on the design I showed you from SS (and am hoping to use, basically) has scrollwork that I want to be in a rough FDL shape. My only tattoo is also a FDL.

Dad''s from French stock and I adore it.

I really want to see photos of your project when it''s done.

I think you''re on to something though; I''ll spend some time searching various FDL designs to find something that fits.

And let me tell you, there are certainly worse characters I could have stalking me...

Hey JG,

Well, I think its obvious that FDL's are clearly in your blood! Thankyou for sharing, do you mind to tell where your tatt is?
I really love the FDL's too, however cannot claim as significant a reason to as you can, I just like 'em, lol..

I have a feeling that shape you are simply drawn to, but I looked at your pic again and I'm thinking it could also represent like a crest shape (as in like a family crest, kwim?), or a shield - shield cut diamonds

Or also something more organic, like a maple leaf? Here's a pic from Julia Kay Taylor of some designs including what she calls Oak and Thistle leaves..I personally adore these, and I'm sure she could do maple or something else...(are you French Canadian stock by chance? lol)..

a number of folks have shown interest in the key by Julia, and I'm really excited about it, so I will surely post a lot of pics and info once its done.

I asked my Fi, and being a linear male he replied "arrow head"....rofl...and This is why I choose/design my own jewellery

Just j/k, he's a sweety.

Tee hee, and you're sweet for not thinking me a weird PS-stalker.

I suppose your FI is right -- it''s just that I was looking at it as the righthand side faces up, and he''s looking at it as if the lefthand side is up. Funny how perception can be so different. :)

I am not of French Canadian stock, though I reckon they''re good people. Maybe I should be a Canuck though, also love maple leaves (and *real* maple syrup, which is like liquid gold here!). Dad''s heritage is European though, so no luck there. If only he were a New Oreleans French immigrant, then I''d really be set!

The FDL tattoo is all the way down on my tailbone. I got it before the college anatomy classes in which I learned that all of the nerves to your back congregate at that one point -- all I can say is, stupid girl.

It''s quite simple as it is now, a black outline with some blue shading. One day when I manage to block out the memory of the pain, I shall have it touched up and colored in properly.

No luck finding what I''m looking for yet, but Google Images has never let me down in the past...
