I''ve been engaged less than a month - I have a GORGEOUS white gold ring with pave band. I''ve inspected this thing in and out - and then yesterday I was gazing at it again and notice that one of the diamonds in the pave looks VERY yellow (almost darker than a canary diamond... possibly rusty???). It''s a double sided pave on a knife edge band, and the diamond on the other side of the knife edge looks a bit yellow as well. It''s at a spot in the band that I cannot see or get under with a soft toothbrush to brush anything out that may have gotten up there. B got upset that I had been cleaning it daily in a US jewelry cleaner - and he''s asked me to not clean it anymore - and only let the jeweler clean it once every six months... but I want it clean and sparkly everyday! I''ve agreed to his parameters until the jeweler can tell us how to best clean it.

Having inspected every mm of this ring on a daily basis for the past month I can hardly believe that this stone was yellow before, but what could be making it look yellow now?

(when we take it to the jeweler if they can''t clean it up back to it''s D white gleam, he''s going to have those 2 diamonds replaced)

I had the same problem with my asscher RHR it's a pave halo style ring. I am very careful with my ring, saw one of the stones was almost brown!! I sent it back to be cleaned. They put it in an acid wash. I heard acid and was like no, don't do that!!

But all was fine. I guess something was stuck behind one of the stones, will never know how that happened as I am so careful.

So ask about an acid wash, good luck. Let us know what happens...

Cleaning pave on US is already pretty controversial. Many setters say not to, but many people do so anyway. Cleaning it every day on the US seems to be pushing it, in my opinion. Besides, if you clean it everyday, there should be the heavy gunk that really needs US to remove.

May I suggest a diluted Windex or amonia dip for everyday? It is enough to dissolve any oils or grease on the ring, keeping it sparkly, with a lot less risk of losing a stone.

UPDATE!

I contacted my jeweler and they said they had ordered some new bits in the fall, and had problems with them breaking. They think one broke while building my ring, and a tiny piece of it is stuck behind the diamond pave and is rusting. They said it would take about 15-30 minutes to fix - I just have to take it in!

PHEW! YAY! My ring will be bright white again by the weekend!

Thanks for all your help!

I''m glad it worked out for you! See.... you can never be too picky about your ring.
