A buddy of mine, who I get my Co spinel from overseas, showed me a few pics of some Ray Mine Gem silica he cut for his business partner here recently. It was picked up the last time his boss man was in the states. He was told it had been sitting in the "sellers basement for 40 years".
It's some of the nicer cut material I have seen. He faceted that rectangle one, because of how transparent it was.
Figured it was nice enough to show you guys.....

These are what coloring by the copper chromophore SHOULD look like, when buying anything cuprian. He said a couple were for sale, and I bet they are pricey, but not as much as a lesser colored Paraiba tourmaline would cost you, I'm sure.......:wall:

OH MY  that colour is astonishing

Wow. What is the weight of the emerald cut stone? Do they change colour? Some gem silicas change colour under different humidity.

Pretty copper coloring! Thanks for sharing!

Very pretty :lickout:

It's nice to see undyed material in such a strong color.

Oh my...I searched on and off for years, without luck, for gem silica with that translucency, color and clarity. Thank you for sharing!

Lilmosun, I to, have been hunting good gem silica for years. I considered it one of my personal favs to try and pursue...like faceted crystal opal, cobalt spinel, JXR, bi-color imperial topaz, paraiba, etc.
I never could find much that had a good price point for the quality. That guy in India always showed some good material in his pics, and I contacted him once or twice, but never pulled the trigger.
Abhik was his name, I think.

The quality of material Frank Schaffer had one time, a few years back, was extremely nice, as well.

In general, I find it's hardness and eye popping color, help make up for it's lack of transparency. The color on many is to die for.
I have these two pictures in my folder on gem silica...can't recall where or who they come from. I wish I owned them though...

I don't know about that Abhik guy....has anyone bought from him before?
It's material from India he sells. It's the nicest material you can find, and buy, without having to "know" someone

thE weight of the emerald cut stone is 7.115cts., pwsg07.
He said "a few of them are available, like this one i'm holding,[i assume he means the emerald cut] I put an exceptionally high price in mind, just in case someone wants it."
I wonder what a good price point would be for some of this material. I wonder how much the 7ct emerald/rectangle cut one would be? I think I will ask.

Wow, what color! They are all to die for, but I especially love that last fat oval cab!

I was thinking the same thing. I have quite a large piece of Peruvian opal that I want to reset. When I’m ready, I’ll come here for suggestions.

Thanks. I think gem silica looks best in cabochon. There is a lot of Taiwanese dealers selling gem silica. Recently read a article saying that the best material is from Arizona.

Oooh! Amazing colouring. These are gorgeous stones.

Mocihiko, I am so glad you posted yours...I remember when I first saw it, I thought "YES...that is what I am looking for!"

AJS gems sells gem silica...with nicer pieces priced accordingly.

Here are pics of some I saw at a recent show from the Inspiration Mine in AZ (the pink/purple stones are sugilite..I've been on a gemmy sugilite gel hunt as well, lol).

Coincidentally, I decided I'd searched long enough and only this past weekend, set this one which I purchased a couple of years ago from Christian Morine. For some reason I had it in my mind that it wasn't translucent enough...maybe because I was more used to the transparency of my faceted stones and assumed it wasn't ideal given the good price. But I loved the color, saturation and size and after seeing others, realized what I wanted was sitting in my gem box all along (now I just need to stop drooling over this thread).

Here's my gem silica. It's not a strong glowing turquoise like the stones in OP's post as it is a little darker but it is quite nice.

It’s gorgeous and glowy!

Wish I’d known about this before my last trip to Taiwan...

Those are wonderful! I believe some really nice material also comes from the Inspiration mine in Arizona.
