So back story is: I happen to be in another country for a couple weeks and ran across a gem dealer. I was thinking about getting a Diamond for the wife and wanted to see his. There were very few VVS and VS and of course the prices were more for the better ones just like expected. I noticed a blue colored one, red, and brown and I was very interested in the blue since i have never seen one. Just to be sure it wasn't a fake or lab grown/treated or what ever (new to this) i did some research... First i don't trust the certificate as the area i was in is known for "fakes" of all types of items. the certificate was from Jiapur Gem Labs? I guess its a local lab from the area i was in and that gives away where i was lol. Second there was no clarity grade as he stated colored diamonds all have inclusions that's what makes them colored so i did more research and blue is boron. The weight was 1.39ct thinking if it was fake it would be smaller or bigger than a normal clear diamond weight. i weighed it at 1.39ct and .278g seemed right compared to a relatively similar clear diamond. Diamond tester tested it as a diamond and at a hardness of 10. I assume by now this is real..... so after all this these are my questions:

There were 3 fractures in the Diamond i can see with a jeweler glass, two very small almost not even noticeable little chips on the exterior, obviously there were boron deposits, and the color as i assume a natural diamond would be was the same color all around except when your looking at an angle were you can see most of the boron deposits , that's where it darkens. I am probably being too worried and i would rate this as an I1 or I2. This stone is very "sparkly" when i put it in the sunlight vs the light inside. its a beautiful stone really... i am curious about worth as a possible I1 or even I2 because the woman i bought it for cheated on me and now i want to sell it but don't want to lose anymore money to her... i wont share the price i forked over for this gem but even saying that i would like to see my money back here is a picture off the card, ill get back home and upload new once from my Nikkon. Anyway any advice or ANYTHING regarding this stone or type of stone will be awesome as i know what to look for when getting it appraised.

100 % radiated diamond and not a type IIb diamond with boron!!!!

You find dozend on ebay!!!

Almost ALL blue diamonds are treated...completely untreated blue diamonds are very rare and are more than 6 figures per carat! If your diamond were completely untreated, it would probably be $300,000! See this diamond thats only 1/3 ct for $100,000 http://www.leibish.com/blue-diamond/035ct-fancy-deep-blue-cushion-vs2-112691-17779 or this one that's only 0.17 ct with just a hint of blue for $14,000 http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/fancy-color/blue/round-cut/0.17-carat-si1-clarity-sku-155543 ...its safe to say that your diamond is treated. It doesn't mean that it's worthless , but I would get an independent evaluation.

yea i started looking around on ebay and found some that are the same color, most were not as big as the one i have, most were 1ct or under. So it looks like i probably wont make my money back on it more than likely especially with the few things i found wrong with it. Well i only paid about 1500 for it so at least i only lost that much if its not worth it. So is the only way to 100% know is to send it to a lab for testing?

No - it is 100% !!!

Such a natural color would be a sensation - you would not be able to purchase it and def. not for 1500 $ !!

The big player in diamond buiness would get such a stone. Save your money!!! Send it back if you want.

i have two more days here... probably wont get my money back but it is possible to trade it for different gem or gems. Although i know next to nothing about any other gem then a regular diamond. The gems i saw he had are alexandrite, rubies, sapphires, emeralds and only a few of the Tanzanite. But like i said i dont know anything about them. The alexandrite looked really cool but he wanted 750 a ct for it, so i could possibly trade that diamond for a 2ct alexandrite something who knows ill figure it out eitherway im out 1500.00

Is it an ebay vendor from Thailand????

You will get your money back. Was the original post natural untreated??? Course it is natural but TREATED!!!

For the future - save the original post on your computer!!!

These ebay vendor hate and fear negative feedback!! Talk to them - you will find a solution! 1500 is a lot of money!!!

no im in india the gem dealer is at the local market, im sure i can atleast exchange it for something worth more possibly

I am sorry but what he stated is true: it is a natural diamond. What he did NOT state is that it has been irradiated, which makes this type of diamond plentiful and inexpensive. My concern is that if you don't know what to look for in coloured stones, you could end up with a potentially less than $500 gem.

Alexandrite - many synthetics, simulants (colour change sapphire) and with poor change
Sapphire - a myriad of treatment, all the way up to diffusion (permanent dye)
Ruby - even more treatments than sapphire, which includes diffusion and lead glass filling. Sometimes there is more glass than ruby.
Emerald - another very risky purchase if you are new. All sorts of dyed oils, resins and could be more resin than emerald.
Tanzanite - generally inexpensive although I've come across a few coated tanzanite.

Correct i did not state it was treated or irradiated because i did not know and the certificate did not say, as i also mentioned im new to colored stones. Either way 1500.00 i can either keep it, try to get some money from it when i get back to the states in a few weeks, or trade it in the next two days for something else. no matter what the 1500 is gone lol. ill stick with regular diamonds after this :-)

If he had any garnet, chrysoberyl or tourmaline those would be safer bets.

well i went back there today, he has a few more items and is willing to trade for something equal of value. yes he had garnet, but none of the others you mentioned, but he also has black diamonds, and some green emerald type thing that he says is only found in afghanistan? Also some lapis stones something else he traded from and afghanistan partner so he says ... either way ill look around at his items tomorrow as i research some of these things and trade in that blue diamond. its either that or keep it im sure if i give it to anyone they would love it.

Black diamonds are very inexpensive. The green emerald type thing only found in Afghanistan sounds like tourmaline. It's safe to get tourmalines although you'd have to get a 2 to 3 carat piece or several small pieces for it to be worth $1500. Lapis is also pretty safe but very inexpensive.

With colored diamonds two separate unrelated things may be natural, or not.

1. Material. It can be mined (natural) or grown in a lab.
2. Color. It can be as it came from the earth (natural), or the result of treatment in a lab.

I object to vendors calling a diamond 'natural' unless BOTH are natural.
When both are natural the diamond will have a report from a reputable lab, hopefully GIA, to justify the very high price.

Unfortunately many vendors don't agree.
The customers are led to believe they are natural when only the material is of natural origin.

There's nothing wrong with a mined diamond treated for color.
It is just wrong to misrepresent them as "natural" and conveniently not mention the color is not natural.

Natural color does not equal natural in the sense the diamond originated in the Earth.

These things can confuse consumers and allow vendors to confuse/deceive potential clients.

Irradiated blues can also be very cloudy, no sparkle, which the stone seems to suffer from in the photo.
