Fancy Pink Diamond Eternity Band - Doesn't Look Pink :(

Hi all!
I wanted a fancy pink diamond eternity band (nothing huge, just 2mm max width) for the longest time, and my boyfriend surprised me with one. However, the diamonds didn't look pink - the color is so subtle it looks more like white diamonds in rose gold. We sent the band back to be re-done (the jeweler is in another town) and the jeweler sent it back two months later without running the new stones by us...and it looks exactly the same :( We're so bummed and wondering if it's our budget (trying to stay under $4,000) or just that the jeweler didn't really try to find more vivid stones. Pic attached.

Can you pink diamond pros help me decide next steps? Maybe to get that more fancy vivid/intense pink color in smaller size stones we'd need to spend more like $5-10K? Or is it possible to go from (using the Argyle Pink color chart as an example) a 9PP to a 5 or 6PP for our budget? I am not looking for anything insane, I just want the stones to appear pink when you glance at the ring! Please let me know, thanks so much!

$ 4200 - WWW & this store does not have a reputation for dissapointing or for bargains ...

Neither does Langerman - listing a few flavours of pink melee here: WWW.

Pink diamonds that small will not be as pink as crayon dots, but there should be visible colour in 'Fancy Pink' - rather than Fancy/ Light Pink, Faint Pink ... I never see melee labeled as complicated pinks with modifiers - brownish- , orangy- , but lab reports are rarely done and the shades are sometimes obvious even in such small stones - nice objects that take too much explaining ...

Good luck !

I've seen pink diamonds in Rose gold, and that helps make paler stones look pinker.

My wedding ring has a gradient of pink diamonds (from more intense to less so to white) set in rose and white gold and to be honest... (bear in mind I AM in australia), the 'upgrade' of those 7 stones (including 2 which are so light even I can't see them) cost about your entire budget... maybe more... for 3 pointers. =\ and this was 3 years or more ago.

I'm not trying to be discouraging because it could well be that we got massively ripped off... but pinks don't show their colour well, especially at smaller sizes.

I can't remember exactly, but I think my middle (most intense) stone was a 3 or 4pp, and it fades out from there.

Setting in rose gold DOES help, though it works better with pink rather than purplish pink stones.

The effect is subtle and won't be glaringly pink. But when worn next to a white diamond ring/band for contrast is when I see the effect the most.

ETA my least pink stones are 7pp from memory.. they're the ones i struggle to see as pink at all despite them being set in rose gold and right next to white diamonds

Having said that, I do own one of Zina's rose gold pink diamond bands. THAT is subtle- again, it's only when next to a white diamond band that it shows a slight pinkish glow.

Ok just tried to snap a quick pic for you to give you an idea.

The rings in this photo include:
My wedding band (v shaped, pink and white diamonds, pink and white gold as described above)

A white diamond v shaped band in rose gold (the most petite one)

My Zina Tahiri light pink diamond rose gold eternity (I actually don't know how wide this is as I bought it preowned), but I suspect the thinnest width. I think it would be more obvious in the larger stones

And a random white diamond white gold band for comparison.

Absolutely no filters on these pics. My hand looks kind of weirdly dark, but the contrast between the bands is pretty close to real life.

In certain lights, the pinks in my wedding band are more apparent. This is in my room in shade...

If I were to get another pink band (depending on my budget), I would probably either talk to Leibish who specialises in coloured stones or get another band from Zina with bigger stones (only coz I know getting bigger pink stones- even if faint, will absolutely blow my budget for anything else and I honestly think the larger the stones the more apparent the colour).

This is a (bigger than mine) Zina band. I believe I have seen her make one with slightly larger stones yet again as a custom order in the past. Some PS'ers do own this band so run a search if interested.

Unless you have a VERY healthy budget, you will get pale pink diamonds. setting in rose gold will help those pink diamonds out some, but otherwise, they're look barely pink.

If you want PINK why not go with pink sapphire or pink spinel? That will get you the color you want, and should be a bit easier on your budget. (at the size you're targeting the sapphire will likely be heated, just sayin)

The thing about most natural pink, blue, and green diamonds are they are usually not very saturated in color. And in melee size, it's more difficult to see the color. Even the intense pink, in melee size, might be difficult to see and they won't really pop unless the color is this deep pink, purplish pink, or reddish pink.

Here is an old ring of mine (center stone is old cut) with intense to vivid purplish pink stones, the biggest is 2.7mm and smallest 1.5mm set in white gold. They are evidently pink in bright light (1st photo), but out of it, you also hardly see the color (2nd photo). 3rd and 4th photo is in direct sunlight and you see a grayish tint. Honestly, even the intense pinks, many stones can appear a bit gray or brownish in some lights.

It does look quite light in the pics you gave, but to be frank, (I haven't seen very many, but as far as I've encountered) most natural pink diamonds, even around "fancy" grade, are pretty light in nature. I think it's because a) the colour pink is a gentle colour to begin with; and b) diamonds refract light a bit more "rainbow" rather than lights of a single colour hue... so in most of the approachably-priced ones, you can only see some pink sparkles, like a gentle mist/aura of pink around them. Only around "intense" grade, as mentioned above, we're they like, "pink" pink.

If it's for colours (under a budget), going sapphire sounds better to me too.

Another suggestion I can give - if you're dead set on pink diamonds - is stacking it with a very colourless diamond ring. That will make the subtle colours "pop" out a bit more. :)
