Looking for a better pair than I''ve been willing to invest in in the past. I used the zappos.com reviews to pick out a few to go try on, but I thought I might be able to get some rec''s here as well.

Here''s my list so far:
Asics gel-kayano 13
" gel-nimbus VIII
" gt-2120
New Balance WR810

Thoughts? Suggestions?

I also, when I ran, loved the gel kayanas or whatever. I also liked a couple pairs of sauconys. I need good support and cushion.

I''ve run two marathons with two differerent pairs of Saucony Hurricanes. They work great for me.

Determining whether you pronate or supinate (or neither) would help you determine a shoe for you...as well as how much you will be using them.

hmm... well, I tend to pronate, so it would be good to find a shoe to help correct that. I haven''t had any injuries, but I do notice soreness because of it. Right now I''m only running 30 minutes 4 times a week, but am planning to step it up a little soon (I''m very new to running still).

Is there a website that would help me choose from those factors, or should I just chat with employees of the sporting goods store for advice?

Saucony''s site has a "find the right shoe" kind of thing, where you put in your weight, gender, and a couple of other things to find the shoe that is right for you.

Don''t go into a regular sporting store...those guys know nothing. Since you live in L.A., maybe you can find a Village Runner store and talk to one of their folks?

go into a specialty running store.

they will film you walking/running on a treadmill. then determine how you walk/run and recommend shoes for you.

i spent a few months researching shoes to try to figure out what was best for me (and also not sacrifice style lol) only to find the ones i got didn''t work for me and were hurting my feet.

went into one of 5 local running stores and was out the door in less than 30 min with a pair that i have worn into the ground...i need to get new ones. also they were not any more or less expensive than going to nordstroms or foot locker and buying from someone who had no idea what to sell me for what i wanted to do. they recommended a few pairs, got my feedback, then went back and brought out more. they will keep going til you find what you love.

definitely recommended! i have to get into the store again in the next few weeks to get a new pair.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS. If you really want performance and comfort, just close your eyes, and let your feet pick them. A speciality store is the only way I have ever gotten shoes that perform well for me.

You can spend all the time you want online, but chances are you will spend 30 min or less at a local store AND get perfect shoes. AND my local running store would even let me return them after a few weeks if they weren''t working for me! Now that is service!

Can a similar type of test be done for aerobics? I do a lot of stepping and would love to know which shoes would be best. Right now I use New Balance and I can tell the outter part of my shoes seem to wear down faster.

Probably depends on the store, but my local one will do it for running shoes, walking shoes, and aerobics shoes.

My son runs track and cross country and went to a running store where they absolutely know how to fit each individual who comes in. He loves his shoes, and they have been good for him when he isn''t running in spikes.

Hi!

I am looking for new shoes too. I just got back from the Podiatrist and I have Plantar Fasciitis

(

I have a very high arc and I do use a lot of flip-flops (live in Florida, flip-flops are a must!!). Anyway, the Dr said no flip-flops....high heels are ok because they actually help the foot and he recommended these arc support insoles that I bought from him. Let''s see how it goes.

I think I need better shoes too though. I work-out at least 5 times a week (aerobis, running, dancing) and also walk everyday for about 30 minutes. I''ve been using Nike, but I don''t know if those are right for me :/.

Or should I just try my "old" shoes with the new insoles and see how that goes??

Has anyone else suffer from this type of injury?

M ~

Mandarine, I have plantar fasciitis too and it is a pain. It flares up from time to time. I wear tevas flip flops bc they have more arch support than most others, but I try to avoid wearing them all day.

I run and work out in adidas supernova with green inserts from the running store - i think they are called smartfeet. They are bright green and have helped me a lot.

I highly agree with Mara and others who suggested a specialty running store. Let them guide you to the right shoe and don''t worry a bit about how it looks, just how it feels.

I spend about $80 on my running shoes and it''s worth every penny to prevent injuries. I replace them pretty often too - all running shoes start to break down before they look worn out.

Thank you Gail!.

I''m using an insole called Powerstep right now and so far I like it. I still have pain but I''m hoping it will get better as I get my feet more used to better support and try to stay away from my flat flip-flops!!

I didn''t know Tevas also had flip flops!. I have the more common tevas (like the ones rafters use), but they''re just not very fashionable..hehe

My dad is a runner and he''s had a variety of shoes. I''m going to begin a walking program which will hopefully lead to running at some point. I''m waiting until I get my first pair of orthodics to buy a new pair of shoes. My foot doc has recommended Brooks but I haven''t tried them out yet.

This site, http://www.coolrunning.com/, has all sorts of info. It''s one my dad recommended I check out.
