My venue is an old Abbey which dates back to the 11th Century and I''m going for a sort of medieval feel without looking "gothicky" in any way.

For my bouquet I am using ivy, old fashioned roses, lavender and fresh herbs. All the herbs will be chosen for their traditional medieval meanings.

For favours I am having little bags which will be filled with a dried mix of the same herbs and lavender and can be put in drawers or hung in a wardrobe. They will have tags attached explaining the meanings and be put in a box along with the sugar almonds (that I hope won''t taste too herby by the end of the day

This is the design which I am thinking of having on each bag. It''s a monogram I designed of mine and FI''s initials and an M for his surname. Then the date in roman numerals (UK way round).

I haven''t totally decided on the colours yet - possibly soft shades of green or golds like this or even browns... I will have a custom stamp made (about £25) and stamp them all with fabric paint and colour them in.

I want them to be okay for men and women - so too girly is out. My sample of male work colleagues has surprisingly shown that they think smelly bags for your knicker drawer is something they would definitely take home and use

Wow that came out HUGE!

My dilemma is on the bags:

Choice 1 - this is a 3" by 4" bag in unbleached cotton with a drawstring top.

I can buy 130 of these for £40 (about $80) including postage.

Choice 2 - This bag has the tie halfway down. They are quite a bit more expensive and I can''t find them in the unbleached cotton that I love.

Which do you guys think is nicer, more appropriate, more fitting with my overall theme ... you get it, free for all critique here please!

Number 1!!!

Totally dig the monogram too!!!

and I am ROFLOL at the idea of your male colleagues wanting their knickers to smell good!!

and of course, you must use Rosemary in your bouquet!

i think the first bag is best. perfect actually.

I love the design!!! I love the second picture of bags but it seems a tad too girly for what type of look you''re going for. I''d choose the plain ones.

oh, and would you mind sharing what typeface you used?

If you mean the typeface for the Monogram - it's a design I did myself.

I basically spent hours looking for what are called Gothic Cyphers on items on ebay and the web generally and then spent about 3 days drawing it out and making all the bits entwine properly. It nearly drove me nuts!

I'm having it engraved on cufflinks for FI for our wedding day.

The typeface for the roman numerals is Times New Roman.

Ditto on the unbleached bags, I think that will look great with the monogram. And I love the idea of choosing the herbs according to their meanings. Makes me think of Ophelia''s speech in Hamlet: ''There''s rosemary, that''s for remembrance; pray, love, remember: and there is pansies. that''s for thoughts.''

In case anyone else is interested here''s the plants and meanings...

Lavender - Love/Devotion
Thyme - Courage/Strength
Rosemary - Remembrance
Marjoram - Joy/Happiness
Sage - Good Health/Long Life/Domestic Virtue
Mint - Wisdom
Forget-Me-Nots - True Love
Honeysuckle - Fidelity/Love
Myrtle - Love/Fertility
Ivy - Fidelity/Marriage
Wheat - Prosperity

got it. i wasn''t sure if you started with pre-existing fonts and manipulated them to create the monogram.

looks AMAZING!

I''m sure there must be some out there, but I couldn''t find the one I wanted. Some of the Dover books have CD''s of ornamental fonts, but you still have to entwine them yourself (I use CorelDraw) as you can only put them side by side using the ones you type.

right, i understand. i just thought yours were a beautiful font to start with. i just didn''t know you created it by hand.

I vote for bag #1 for sure, and I LOVE the monogram you designed-it''s beautiful! You''re so talented!

I also love that you''re getting it engraved on cufflinks for your future husband-so perfect!

Thanks for all the votes on No.1

I''ve been worrying that the drawstrings at the top would look odd - even though I liked them, so you have really put my mind at rest.

Do you think 3" by 4" is the right size or too big?

How full should they be? Firm or pretty squishy - if that makes sense ( I need to work out how much filling I need to order!)
