Hey peeps! I just got the first CAD back from DK for my significant other’s engagement-ring, and want to run it through y’all to see if there is anything I am missing.

There are a couple of comments I plan on making already. Those are that the halo/prongs should be in Platinum while the shank is 14k YG. The second is that I like the halo being tucked under the girdle (e.g. tightly fitted halo).

One of my big questions is whether the halo should be French set? I attached some photos from the inspiration ring (just the halo in particular). Please let me know what y’all think! Thank you!

On your inspiration the N/S/E/W diamonds are set outside of the four prongs. This results in the cushion shaped halo.

If you want the halo set close to the girdle you would have to set the diamonds such that the prongs fall in the gap between two diamonds. However this would result in a round halo, and the cushion shape would be lost.

In order to get the true cushion shape, I think that the diamonds need to be set around the diamond rather than tucked in places. Without all of the halo stones visible, it seems rather difficult to see what the intent is - just my .02!

No comment on the halo as that isn’t my expertise.
I do have one comment regarding the gallery (profile). I have a ring with an open gallery and a diamond band was able to scratch the center stone on the underside pavilion. I would have him add some metal design under there to ensure that won’t happen.
Pretty inspiration ring!!

I didn't even think about that being the result, but it makes total sense. I think I'm just hyper-focused on the 3rd picture of the inspiration ring and how it appears to be set below the girdle and hugging the center stone. Is it possible to still be cushioned-shaped and set lower than the girdle?

I initially indicated to David that I wanted a simple metal design (something like the image below), but he said that it would cause issues with the wedding band sitting flush, which makes sense. But I also don't want it scratching the diamond, as we intend on having a more elaborate wedding band with side stones. Do you have any examples of a gallery that would still allow a band to sit flush?

If you are picky (I am too) about girdle height above halo
Show examples of what you want and ask DK if it’s possible. Don’t think final set height of your stone shows up on cad.

showing examples (clearly labeled) of what you don’t want is effective as well.

I love the gif version of your avatar. I use it often

For a quick example, as it’s a busy day at my house, here are a couple of the galleries he’s made for me. Both allow for a flush fit and also protects the pavilion of the stone. I wouldn’t do pave on it of course.

See how he tucked the gallery in?
Here’s another of mine.

Personal preference and all, but here is the gallery that the stone was scratched by a diamond band.
