I have really mixed feelings about selling this gem, so I thought I would make a post to see if there’s any interest. I tried listing it before, but for some reason, the iPhone really distorts the colors when you take a screen grab of a video. I finally figured out a way to do it accurately.
The last photo shows the tourmaline next to other colored gems. That and the hand shot are probably the best representation of what it looks like IRL.
Overall, it’s quite blue. As the lighting gets warmer, it takes on a bit more teal. The color is best put into perspective by the the comparison photo in between green tsavorite, violet sapphire and blue sapphire.
It’s a great stone. It’s just not very fond of my iPhone camera.
Cool LED:
Outdoors:
Warmer light from a window:
* this last photo is skewing a bit warm/yellow. The Tsavorite on the left is actually vibrant green with a touch of blue.
*** someone inquired about why the stone is the same price as the 2.50 blue-green tourmaline I posted before.
The reason is, quite simply, because that’s what I paid for it. Blues tend to command a higher price than blue-green.
After that, I checked around Bangkok’s gem district for similar stones. The blues I found were both more expensive and not as vibrant as this one. I hope that puts things into perspective a little bit.
