How Many Unset Stones Do You Have?

  • None

  • 1-3 and I have plans for each of them

  • 3-5 I have legitimate ideas

  • 5-7 Sometimes things just follow you home

  • 7-10 I remember each of them fondly like children

  • 10+ I may have a problem

  • I'm not willing to count and I know I have a problem

I don't think this counts, but I have a baggie of wee little diamonds, 11 in total maybe 2-3mm transitional. They must have been come from a piece that was dismantled. One day, they are going to make the most charming surround for something colorful.

Ooooh I have so many it's an issue. Likely around 10 or 12.

This poll made me legit laugh out loud

Unset stones irk me. They nag at my sense of order. Despite that... I'm in the 5-7 have followed me home camp. Stones that vendors are holding onto whilst I figure out what to do don't count, right? :halo:

@Bron357 And the record for best acquisition story as well!

So many reds in those jars...

TNTC - a lot are inexpensive starter stones that I am not going to set.

DK :))

I just have this. It’s a lab emerald from Jeff White. I put my studs in there to see how it looks as a three-stone, but it’s not how I’ll be settling it.

Only two small cab ammy’s. Bought these in a set of three and made a beautiful ring with the larger one. And the rhodollite garnet. It’s just too unremarkable with my skintone

Definitely in the 10+ camp but it doesn't bother me. I am particular about setting and the design, plus I don't intend to set most of them since they are my mid-collection stones where they are too nice to let go but not wow enough to spend on setting them.

I guess technically this is seven. Five rose cuts, an old miner and an old european.

I had plans for them but I’m probably going to give up. Meanwhile they’re jewellery box decorations!

There are so many wonderful stones and future projects!

@voce Your stones look like art work! So beautiful like a kaleidoscope of faceted glory.

@Bron357 Your collection is HUGE and so impressive. You've got a great eye for color and bargains. I'd love to see your set pieces all spread out on the rug too!

@chrono Can we see your "not worth setting" stones. The ones you do set are simply fabulous.

@PreRaphaelite You could set those rose cuts like that pansy ring! That would be glorious.

@lovedogs Are you wearing that magnificent pendant? To this day I go back to look at the photos you posted just to enjoy.

@collier I self insure so I keep most of my jewellery and loose stones in the bank vault. Given the current lockdown, I will not be able to go there for at least another month, so sorry, no pics. I do remember what I have though; an emerald, a few tourmaline, several spinel (red, pink, and blue), a tsavorite, an engraved amethyst, a spessartite, one aquamarine, and a few paraiba melee.

I vote that a melee parcel counts as one.

[They are clones, yes, just one stone].

I guess I have 8.

3 go to a ring project. A spinel and diamond cadis. I need to mail them off.

I have two empress cut diamonds and blue sapphires in Caysie's safe for earring charms. I need to ping her.

I have a 2.5ish carat old mine diamond with a vendor for setting project.

And an almost 4 carat tsav garnet pear in Sri Lanka that will be shipped when the vendor is more comfortable with the shipping situation.

I have many more than 10 loose/unset CS, and I don't have a problem; I have a collection ... a collection of from-the-earth beautiful colored gemstones that I have enjoyed searching for and choosing and learning about. Some I will never set, another half-dozen I hope to set within the next year or two, all of which bring me joy.

I thought I had 3 but um. Now I remember I actually have some citrine melee somewhere I had intended for a remembrance ring lol. I should really figure out what I did with it.

This one is my favorite, got it from my late mom as "Green Garnet from Ural mountains" many years ago. Only recently figured out what kind of garnet it is and now want to buy several more of them.IMG_9810 (2).JPGIMG_9811 (2).JPG

How do you keep them like that? Mine roll around and go sideways etc

These aren't regular gem jars. The lids have a sticky gel on them, that over time will be less sticky (but they work so well for laying out gems and seeing gem combinations)! You can buy them off of Stuller.

Thanks!!

I only have one and technically I sent it to dan stair to recut so I’m golden
