Hi team, I’m almost ready to pull the trigger on a CAD and would love any thoughts.

The inspiration was a few rings from Victor Barbone and I accidentally wound up creating a Barcelona variation, even though the basket inspiration came from a completely different ring. I tried like heck to get the shoulders to meet mid-basket because that really appeals to me, but the translation to bezel and a lower height wasn’t working. So now the shoulders are solid and extend up to the bezel.

The wax model came today. I like it even more than I thought I would! One concern I had before seeing it is that the solid shoulders would be too much, but it creates a nice profile view with the wedding band. The only change I’m definitely going to do is start the pinch of the shank a little earlier so that it’s a less abrupt transition.

The plan right now, which is a change from when I started this, is gold shank and basket, platinum bezel.

Anything off? Grossly ugly? One idea I had was to widen the donut a bit - but it’s really comfy this way so I don’t know.

And then lastly, when I put on the ring that holds the stone, my stone looks bigger than the model (not complaining there!). Please excuse the scratch I gave myself apparently ripping these rings on and off in excitement. *snort*

I think what you are seeing as your diamond looking bigger than the wax model, is the outline shape of your actual diamond vs a straighter sided cushion as the cad is using.

I think the finished ring will look lovely on you - as does the wax.

I have no experience reading cads, so I won't make any comment, other than to say that I think this is going to be a beautiful solitaire!

Is the shank/shoulders going to be engraved or smooth?

Thanks! Smooth, I’m just doing a little milgrain action on the inside of the bezel.

Oh I really like this setting. Simple and comfortable yet solidly made. The taper of the band is a great extra touch that makes the ring look better than a mass produced item

I think it looks great! Can't wait to see it!

Thanks all! I’ll be sure to share the final result!
