Haven't posted here in a very long time, but quick update. 5 Years into our marriage my wife's emerald cut stone, 1.25 ct, CRACKED! At that point we needed the insurance money for other things than a new ring. So she has gone ringless for the past 15 years since.
Back in 2003, Asscher's came onto the scene in a big way. I always had an appreciation for them, but due to the weight in the depth vs. surface area, I couldn't afford anything that would meet my criteria for what I wanted her to have.
Yesterday I took her to two jewelry stores. One fancy, one less fancy. I expected she'd likely choose and emerald cut diamond again. She liked the ring we saw at the fancy place. After trying on some ovals etc, I thought I saw a radiant that looked beautiful. However, it was a sparkling Asscher cut. Due to the lights I couldn't tell the difference.
It was out of my price range so it was put back in the case. We went to the other store, then back to the fancy store just to do a thought and feel comparison. I asked about the asscher again because I forgot about the price. I then asked what their best price on it was. To my surprised they reduced it by 30%. I then asked once more, and they took another 2k off the price of the ring.
Truth be told, I likely paid what the retail value of the ring was, they just had a massive markup. We were excited and other than knowing the G, VS1, 3.0 ct, I didn't delve into the GIA specs.
Ultimately it doesn't matter, but I'd love any enthusiasts perspective on the dimensions and all that.
