Finding a GIA, AGS Ideal Cut Emerald Cut Lab Diamond…Impossible?

Okay, I know where to find such a diamond, if I really wanted to ( make that if I really was able to) , but we are talking $5000- 6000 for a 2.5 to 3 ct. I have searched, and searched ,using GIA certif. In the filters) plus the best numbers for table and depth %, and an AGS Ideal cut just isn’t there.
I know that they do exist . I drool over them on BGD website. Years ago, my husband and I drove to Houston to give him a diamond to recut for me. He spent almost 2 hrs. talking about diamonds and many other things. . He is just the nicest guy. Wish I could afford one of his premium labs, but it is a “want”, not a “need”. Oh.. and he really improved the cut quality of my earth mined EC without losing much of the weight.IDK if he does that any longer. As I said, it was years ago.
So, has anyone in PS land seen a GIA AGS Ideal Emerald (that’s my dream cut, shape) Lab diamond? If so, how did you find one? Or…..could it be that this particular grading has something to do with one of his cutting/polishing patents, and is given only to his diamonds? Hope not but I really want to know if it’s possible to find a special emerald cut, of this top quality, at a lower price. I’m willing to keep searching, unless it’s just gonna be an exercise in futility!
Input from the experts ( @DejaWiz , @Karl_K , @Dreamer_D ,@lovedogs,
anyone else) would really, really be welcomed!

AGS Ideal isn't specific to BGD, they exist elsewhere. To what extent though, I am unsure. I know Distinctive Gem does AGS Emeralds, but they are probably double the price of BGD. I'll keep your hunt in mind while browsing!

I’m aware, but thanks for your reply. When I search lab diamonds on DG, ( general search , not Jonathan’s custom cuts) specifying only GIA certif. In the filters, the certificate screen is either blank or says “ no preview available”. IDK why ?

I really appreciate that! Anything priced higher than BGD just won’t be possible for me. This isn’t my first major jewelry purchase, or third or 10th. Can’t justify a big $ outlay for this, unless I sell some other pieces first. That,as we all know, is easier said than done!

There are some nice looking 2.5 to 3 ct BG deluxe emerald cuts for under 3k if that’s within budget. I’m sure they can provide ASET images and tell you how they compare with their premium line.

Personally, I do not buy the term "Ideal Emerald Cut"
Unlike round diamonds, there's no set of numbers that will produce the same results every time.
Because the magic of the emerald cut is in the placement of facets- which isn't directly related to table depth.
IN terms reports- you'll find only a fraction of stones on the market with GIA reports. They take a longer time and cost a lot more than IGI.....so very few growers are usi9ng them

Hi ,@0-0-0 ,
I hadn’t thought of asking BG to compare their Deluxe Labs to their Premium Labs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for your input. I really do appreciate it. Based on your reply regarding ideal EC diamonds ( numbers and percentages on paper don’t tell the whole story) I’m beginning to think that an EC would be best viewed in person. Sort of a “you’ll know it when you see it” experience. I seem to recall @Karl_K posting something about facets in a EC but I can’t seem to find it now. Anyway, thanks again.

My pleasure!
The current market is all about being able to use these ( quite horrible) rotating videos and images to select one out of the seemingly endless array of candidates.

The rotating videos are more informative than numbers alone… but still not truly definitive in my experience.
When we’re talking about emerald cuts- or really any fancy shapes, there’s no substitute for hands on evaluation. And by the way- of course as a dealer I need to evaluate in person. But even as a seller I realize even if I love it, it’s still up to the buyer when they see it first hand.
I also don’t buy into the term “ideal cut” when we’re talking about fancy shapes. That’s another story
