I have been biting my nails since I could ever remember and I have gone a week without picking or biting at my nails. I am wanting to have good fingernails for the engagement pictures and stuff so that way if we get pictures upclose of our hands my fingernails don''t look terrible.....do any of you have advice or anything to avoid doing this? I''ve tried stuff where it tastes TERRIBLE on your nails so you don''t bite them but if I don''t bite them I pick at them which does the same thing. Sooo the only thing I can think of is like super glue or somethign to make them extra strong. Have any of you had this problem?

I''m a picker... it''s horrible.

Maybe get a manicure. Once your nails are really nice, it''s harder to destroy them. Don''t put superglue on them! You can use stuff that will make them stronger... but it might give you a bit of a shine. If all else fails, the week before the wedding just put bandaides on you fingers...

I''m a picker too and my nails were at their absolute worst when my fiance proposed a week and a half ago. We were at the beach when he did it and were already scheduled to get family pictures taken with his whole family so we decided to add our engagement pictures to the shoot as well.

I begged him to take me to get my nails fixed before the pictures (we brought his car down), but he told me I was unnecessarily spazzing and that you wouldn''t even be able to see my nails in the pictures.

He was right! We got a few closeups, but my hands aren''t in them, and in the farther away pictures where my hands are visable, you can''t make out my awful nails at all.

I have the same problem... What has worked for me:

I got a manicure for my cousin''s wedding last year. Everyone else was getting a french manicure, but of course, I could not because I didn''t have any nails. They painted my nails Silver for the wedding (matched the dress). They used OPI nail polish which stayed on FOREVER and they were so pretty, I made a concious effort NOT to mess them up. After the manicure I didn''t bite/pick/peel my nails for 3 months. This lasted until my nails got so long, I ended up breaking most of them (in my job and working in the yard).

Now, since I don''t get regular manicures, I have found that if I use the nail polish that has flecks/sparkles/whatever it''s called (the stuff thats hard to get off w/remover) it also so stays on fairly well (even on my peeled/cracked nails). I used that OR I will put on 4-5 coats of Sally Hanson Hard as Nails clearcoat. I put on a coat on either everyday or every other day right over top. This is has worked out best because I don''t have to worry about the polish coming off at all.

I too am a horrible nail biter. For the past year or so I''ve been trying to quit and although I can''t say that I''ve stopped totally I''m much, much better at not biting them. Here''s a few things that have helped me.

1. My nails are really thin and weak so I use Nailtiques to help strengthen them. With some sort of polish on the nails I can (mostly) ignore them. Without polish I am much more aware of my fingernails and much more likely to bite them.
2. Keep a nail file on you at all times. If you file away the rough and ragged edges you are much less likely to pick at them.
3. Make a weekly appointment for a manicure. It helps to "just say no" if you *know* you''re going to have someone staring at your hands every week.
4. As a really last resort, fake nails. :)

ummm i guess i should have reminded everyone i''m the groom haha....i have VERY short nails and they look terrible when i bite them i just don''t want them to be bad when we have the close up''s of us holding hands or something......also the nail polish sounds good....except i''m sure a bunch of my guy friends would have quite a few comments about that haha

Hey FirstB, you can still go for a manicure, just skip the polish!

Seriously, once you see how GREAT your nails can look then maybe the urge to bite/pick will lessen! I did this with my FI, and it helped (a bit). I also "fined" him a quarter every time I caught him in the act!

haha the change thing is a great idea....maybe we could do that and i mean i know it wouldn''t add up to anything but we could use it for gas for the honeymoon trip or something

Hmmm, keep us posted on how sucessful you are. My groom''s fingers look like they''ve been dipped in acid!

I am nail picker too. I find that going to get tip put on prevents me from bitting my nail. I don''t know if you thought aboeut that or not, or if you are only interested in wearing your own nails.
