We''re having the hardest time picking our first dance song. We really have no songs that are special to us or mean anything, so we''re generally just trying to pick a song that we both like, which is proving to be much harder than we thought it would be.

He really wants a song with a rock feel to it, and that''s fine by me, but I want something slower and not too headache-inducing for our older guests. The only problem is he says no to everything I come up with! Any suggestions?

Aerosmith''s "I don''t want to miss a thing" :)

I don''t care how many times I hear this song........I just love it!

I thought about that one, but can you dance to it?

I''m going to try talking FI into Sting''s "Field''s of Gold," rock-y but calm enough for grandparents.

Peter Gabriel''s "in your eyes"

Maybe something by Journey, like Faithfully or Open Arms?

Does your FI have a certain band in mind when he says "''rock feel?" Dh and I didn''t have "a song'' we called out own either when we got married a few years ago but ended up having our first dance to Etta James version of "At Last." DH is a suit and tie guy whose favorite band is Metallica, LOL, and we spoke extensively with our DJ to make sure we had the proper mix of Frank Sinatra and "rock out" music for him, so we entered the reception to "Start me Up'' by the Rolling Stones, which was cool...but definitely not earth shattering nor did it cause any hearing aid wearing reception goers to have to turn down their equipment, hee hee. There are so many options out there, maybe you just need to narrow it down by genre and go from there?

what about Amazed by Lonestar?
I LOVE that song!

I''m probably no help, but we''re using "Over the Rainbow", the weekend we got engaged we saw Wicked and our band''s singer has a terrific version of it that she does.

Black Crows: She Talks To Angels
Chris Cornell: Sweet Euphoria
Led Zeppelin: Thank You

The guitar on first two songs kicks.

A co-worker used Purple Rain, which I thought was pretty funny but he and his wife were crazy about the song.

Another co-worker used Lady in Red, which is a very nice song. (I always have doubts because the lady is in white, during the dance.)

I''ve heard of couples using the Aerosmith song that was mentioned.

My wife and I wanted to use No Matter What from the Notting Hill movie, but the dj said it was too negative

We used Rod Stewart''s The Way You Look Tonight. (A very nice version; liked it better than others.)

Thanks for your responses everyone! A lot of them were great songs I hadn''t even thought of. Wish me luck...eek!

If your hubby-to-be is really into music he might want something that''s by an artist that "music" people would appreciate more.

My DH and I used Santana''s song Love of my Life for our first dance

We used Eric Clapton''s song Wonderful Tonight for our last dance, but that might be another nice one

Good luck!!

Metallica''s "Nothing Else Matters" acoustic version performed with the San Francisco Symphony. An amazing version of an amazing ballad, and your FI has to agree that it rocks even though its tame enough for the old people.

There''s a thread over at Indiebride with a lot of unconventional suggestions. We used Lyle Lovett''s "She''s No Lady, She''s My Wife". I walked down the aisle to "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps" (the Cake version) and our wedding party walked to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love".

I bet you do have songs that mean something to you --- it might just take a lot of brainstorming to figure it out.
