Hello LIW!

Well, this weekend I''ll be taking the first "steps" in the proposal process. My gf and I will be visiting her family and because it will probably be the last time I see them before we head up to Carmel in early March, I''m planning on asking her mother and stepfather for their blessing while we''re there. Actually, my gf is very close to her grandmother and it just so happens that she''ll be there this weekend as well. Because they are so close, I''m leaning towards talking to her grandmother, something I know she would love to be a part of.

Once I get through all those conversations, I''m going to give her biological father a call (he lives on the other side of the US) and have a talk with him.

Why am I posting this here you might ask? I just wanted to give you a glimpse into the process from a guy''s perspective. Even though I have no doubt her mom, stepdad, dad, and grandmother are going to be thrilled (we get along great), I''m going to be an absolute bundle of nerves. It''s a huge moment you know? As of right now, the only person who knows about any of this (besides all my Pricescope friends :) is my dad (I''m storing the ring in his safe). My mom has become extremely suspicious and won''t stop asking me when I''m going to ask, but I''ve managed to keep her in the dark.

Anyway, I''m not sure I have an actual point here but I just wanted to convey how excited I am about getting the ball rolling. I already feel like I need to be pinched to prove that this is about to happen!

Oh my goodness! Good luck and congratulations in advance!
The only advice from a woman''s perspective is to pray!

I will tell you that my boyfriend asked my parents for their blessing a few weeks ago. (all of this is secondhand from him, and i''m really not supposed to know about any of this anyways....oh well) He wasn''t nervous until that night. But he asked them out to dinner, and they had small talk until the entrees got there--he talked first about how much he loved me and how wonderful our relationship was...and then summarized by asking for their blessing. Shockingly, they gave it to him--and were excited. They had told me they wouldn''t approve of anything for another couple of years.

Moral of the story, expect the best, but prepare for the worst. In other words, be prepared for some hard questions. But it''s bound to go better than all of the situations that you probably have rehersed in your mind! They must be good people if they produced a daughter that you love so much!

Keep us posted!

Esguy, Thanks for sharing your excitement with us! I''m so excited for you

I can''t wait until my BF is doing the same thing you are. It''s great to see how excited you as a guy are about the whole getting engaged thing. I know my BF is excited at the thought of being married, I just can''t wait to actually see how excited he is to be engaged!! Congratulations and best of luck!!

Good luck! *sends good vibes*

Congratulations and GOOD LUCK!! It''s always nice to get the guys perspective on this kind of stuff, especially because boyfriends (mine at least) can be secretive and not want to discuss anything remotely related to proposals in the chance that they might "give something away".. anyways, let us know how it goes!!
