Hi!
I’m considering 2 OMCs for my engagement ring. Both were so stunning in person and I honestly didn’t mind the warmth, but I’m planning to set it in platinum so would love some expert thoughts!! Thanks so much!

Option 1: 3.48 S-T VS2
Option 2: 2.61 M VS187703DD8-3E44-4948-B502-B3399FC7385C.png40B75220-C126-459F-BED9-71F264BE345A.pngCC56F026-6B38-4DE9-A325-2F0AF60216A2.png5CE2CD7C-4481-41A1-A1AA-AD45C965E3A0.png38E42CB1-37F9-4998-90B2-ADEF5D0E6FF7.pngBB160564-EAE6-42C5-B595-E376B0A5DD6A.png

Totally agree with @Tourmaline - if you are happy with warmth (and it’s ok if you’re not) the first one has a gorgeous cut and she’s a honker!

I’m not sure what your lifestyle is, but I’d make sure you’re comfortable with that large a stone too!

Yeah!!
If you love the color in multiple environments of the S-T next to platinum
All day long -hands down - bar the door Katie- that one would be my choice.

The first seems to have crisper facets and a better light reflection pattern.

I prefer that stone of the two.

Thank you!! Do you think I should risk it and wait for one that's whiter since I'm going with a platinum setting?

Thank you so much for your help!! Do you think the ST will be okay in a platinum setting? I just don't want it to look super yellow/like FLY

What I would do is I would put the stone next to a ring in the metal that you want to set it in.

Do you have a plain band that you could take pictures of the stone right next to it with? With the stone inside of it?

I generally think that lower-colored stones look best in platinum.

I have an o/p in platinum as well as a q/r that has a bezel in platinum. They tend to not pick up as much color when they are set in platinum in my view.

But each stone has different undertones.

I would definitely put your stone inside various bands of different color golds to see how it looks. Adam can do that for you.

I don't think it is going to look FLY in platinum. If you were going to cup in yellow gold, then probably. But not with what you want to do.

I'd go with the bigger, warmer one. I agree with everyone that it looks like a nicer cut.

The first one looks really nice as long as you’re ok with the tint. It won’t look super yellow, just yellow-ish. I’m assuming the thing at 7 o’clock is some weird reflection and not a chip?

Another vote For the first stone here! Here’s a sample of an S/T OEC in a platinum setting.

Another vote for the first one...it's gorgeous. I personally love the lower coloured diamonds and think they look amazing set against platinum!

Between the two stones I definitely prefer the first! It’s bigger and better cut to my eye.

that being said you should probably try and see if you like the way it looks in plat or WG if that’s important to you before you buy. Can the seller place it in a WG or plat ring setting / ring holder for you to see what the colour would look like?

Thank you for the advice - and love that you knew this was OWD!! I went back for a second visit - here's 2 videos of it in platinum and 2 different lightings!

For me the first one appeals more but you need to accept that in white metal you will probably notice the color and know if that’s ok. You will notice in in M too so based on the fact that most think the first is a prettier stone I’d forget the M. Personally I probably wouldn’t put anything lower than a K or L antique stone in platinum but again that’s personal. If I were going lower than an L, I would use yellow gold. But there are others who would definitely disagree with me so this is a very personal decision that you have to make.

Oh my! Video one FTW! It is a stunner. The big stone in platinum is definitely my vote. It strikes me that the better cut has the bigger stone reading more white than then smaller one (although the yellow gold is certainly contributing to that impression too).

Definitely like the bigger one more but mostly wanted to let you know your name appears on the Vimeo video so you may want to hide that.

I much prefer the platinum with this stone. I think it works nicely.

Thank you!!

I also found this one today - what do we think compared to the 3.4 ST??

2.88 K VS2

I think it’s yummy - is your reservation with the ST the color?

Yes just the color! I don't notice it 90% of the time and find it shows up more on video - but more just feeling insecure that I'm not making the right decision and "should" be going with a better colored stone! It's scary making such a big decision/purchase!!

I think I am partial to the ST stone lol. The K appears yellow on the video as well. I really love the faceting of the ST stone hahaha but yes it is very scary with such a big purchase you have to be sure. Can you compare them side by side?

Ugh right?! The cut of the ST is just so gorgeous. Unfortunately no :( they’re at 2 diff places. The ST has a 10 day return policy so many we just buy it and see how we feel once it’s in hand?

Aww that is tricky.. I love love love the ST stone if I had my pick and the tint wouldn't bother me at all. Well they are like chameleons so they won't be the same in all lighting just bear that in mind. Indoors they tend to be pretty good well for my diamond that's what I have found. Sometimes in the car or under sunlight then you can see the warmth more. Maybe get it and play around with it for a few days in different lighting and see if it bothers you?

Frankly if you think you’re bothered by the color now - I wouldn’t get it. Even if the faceting is perfect - you won’t unsee the color im guessing. If you are worried about it bc of perception vs your own preference...that’s another story. The tint would personally be dealbreaker for me, but that’s my preference!

I like antiques, but I still like icy white stones. Many PSers love warm stones. Up to you to decide what you are comfortable with, but don’t get anything you aren’t head over heels with! You shouldn’t convince yourself to like something!

The first stone is gorgeous!
