Al;right, this is gong to sound kinda strange, but ....
My dog has been chosen...to father a litter.
He has no idea.
He has only met this young lady once, briefly.

He''s a Standard Poodle. Handssome, rugged, all-around studly-kinda guy. Seven years old, sort of sheltered in that he has been kept away from eligible females until now.

She hasn''t had a litter before, and is a little younger than he is.

So...what do the female''s owner and I do while we wait for the "attraction" to take effect? I assume that we will meet at her place, put the dogs in the yard, make sure that they don''t want to kill each other for a few minutes, and then....
Do we rent a DVD?
Eat popcorn, and make polite conversation, while checking what''s going on in the yard once in a while?
Play "catch" a few yards away?
Leave them completely alone and go for a slurpee somewhere?

Or, do we broadcast Barry White seduction music from the kitchen window? Al Green? No?
How ''bout James Brown? Should we cheer? That would be weird.

Any comments would be useful. I''ll probably ignore them all, so bring it on.

I always wondered about this too. And if you don''t keep an eye on them, how do you know if something actually happened between them?.... That is until months later..... I vote for the Barry White from the kitchen window!

He''s adorable. No clue how this works. There must be websites about this sort of thing?? Barry White sounds like a good choice. Let us know how it goes!!

No experience with this either. I''m guessing they''ll need constant supervision. He''s a cutey though, his babies will be so adorable!

oh my gosh ... you crack me up ... Barry White!!!

Ok ... well in the past, we invited the fella over for the day ( few hours) ... I supervised that they first would not get in a fight and bite each other, usually they would just play and chase each other around and play tag. Usually you do this when the female is not in heat.

When it is that time of month for the lil' lady ... the fella comes over to stay a couple of nights. You don't need to watch unless your into that kind of thang'
23.gif
... nature will take its course, and after a couple of days you go and pick up Mr. Studly - wudly.

If it didn't take, you try again the next time the lil' lady is in heat. It usually works the first encounter.

Good luck, he's a cutie!

Are you suggesting a "sleepover"?

My teenaged kids do that. Do babies sometimes come as a result of that? Now I''m worried!!!

Are you suggesting a 'sleepover'? Yup ... usually the male goes over to the lil' lady's pad!

My teenaged kids do that. Do babies sometimes come as a result of that? Now I'm worried!!! Yup ... you better be worried ... A girl I went to HS with got preggers from a supposed sleep over ... she was not lying to her parents when she said she was going over to Marta's house and then would be sleeping over ... she just didn't specify at who's house she would be slepping over at! Whhopps! Nosey Parents make good parents!

I suggest Oyster-flavored Milk Bones. I also suggest that I go to sleep soon, as I''m getting punchy ...

Sock it to her, Poodle Boy!

Ooooohhhh...he''s sexy!

Can''t you get some "phermone" spray or something to get him in the mood beforehand? Do they even sell that for dogs? I know here in America, for people, it''s usual called alcohol!

This whole thread is cracking me up! That handsome guy already has a gleam in his eye, it doesn''t look like he''ll need any help. . .

Gosh, when i figure out how the heck to say all those professional terms in English, i might be more helpful., because i did have an experience with our Gordon.
Just have no idea how to tell you...firstly - she should come to your boy''s place - believe it or not, it''s more important that HE is comfortable.

Secondly, if "The event" happened it suppose to be "stack" time about 5-40 min, you don''t want you boy not to be supervised especially first time.

Anyway, my lack of terms only allows to suggest hiring a pro for the party.

Handsome dog! Good luck

Hee hee....THIS is certainly a thread I''m subscribing to!!!

How exciting! Love in bloom in Alberta!!

Keep us posted...would love to hear how it goes...

No advice, but this thread cracks me up! Perhaps watching the Nature Channel would help them get in the mood?

Your boy is quite handsome. I''d love a standard poodle, but think I should stick to smaller breeds as long as I''m living in rented apartments.

this thread put a smile on my face. Please keep us posted..too funny

Thanks for all the support.
Mojo will be pleased to know that such a large internet community is cheering him on!

The female in question''s name is Lola.
La-la-la LO-LA.
Oh, the lyrics that come to mind...

He met her on a sidewalk down on Whye Avenue,
he only got one sniff, but he wanted to____
With LO-LA
Lala la la Lo-LA

Now I''m not dumb, but I can''t understand,
Why the lady won''t sit, or come on command,
She''s Lo-LA

Alright, don''t encourage me ...

OMG... ROTFL! That just put me over the edge... good thing I didn''t read this thread while I was in class!

And your boy''s name is Mojo! Mojo and Lo-LA...! Heeheeeheeee!!!

LOL!!! THis thread is cracking me up!! Especially since my FI and I talked about whether or not we would be "leaving things intact" for our little Chewy for such matters. Which btw, how do you go about ....ummm....procuring ummmm..."clients"?

See what happens when humans intervene in nature!! Makes me glad I took my little Yorkie to be fixed - I couldn''t be taking her to date and mate! LMAO! I would have to keep checking on her and would probably have a nervous breakdown by the time it was over!

I am all over the Barry White though!

This is interesting, and good to know...now you''ll be able to set everything up just right before Lola gets there: crackling fire, candles, mood music, etc. etc.....

I have a feeling a quick butt sniff (the dogs, the dogs!) is all it''s gonna take.

Not with the pure-breeds FG

, here is my theory - those marriages were arranged for generations so love used to get some help from humans.
Good luck Mojo.

ETA: i am glad Mojo not reading this.

Really, it was a chance meeting. I walk Mojo every evening in a very popular pedestrian area, and Mojo saw Lola staring at him from across the street. There aren''t all that many standard poodles around, and it was love at first sight...Wited for the light to change, and experienced some unusually strong leash-pulling while crossing..

Lola''s owner and I spoke for a little while, then exchanged phone numbers.
Lola''s owner wrote to me last week to tell me that Lola is in heat.
We are paying her a visit this afternoon. Hopefully, Mojo will know what to do...or whom...whatever.

Whatta stud!!!

Oooh I love his facial expression.

HI:

Well.....??????

How''d it go......

Yes, since the butt sniffing doesn''t work for arranged ''marriages'' then I''m curious if the Barry White worked?

Well, it was sort of like attending a sporting event for one of the kids. You watch them run around on the field, challenging their opponets, and when an opportunity arises, they score....

Come back for some water and encouragement, run around some more, score again. The spectators drank beer and encouraged the players, occasionally looking away when some of the less-comfortable skirmishes were occurring....and by the time two hours had past and the clock ran out, it was a double-digit blow-out.

Mojo was on top of his game. For the first time on the field, he played like a champion.
We didn''t go for pizza after, though.
The boy got a leg of lamb bone instead.

CONGRATULATIONS, FG!!!
