Hi all,

I could use help on my first CAD. My center stone is a 2.91 H color VS 2; the CAD included ~.66 ctw melee on a 2mm platinum band.

I have a few questions:

1. Do you think the prongs from CAD look a bit thicker? How can I explain to them that I want small/delicate prong?
2. I feel like the stone is set pretty high, what's your opinion on it?
3. Do you think 2mm is a good thickness for engagement ring bands?
4. Thinking to change the 4 prong to 6 prong - is there a proper way/position to set it? Do I have to be specific with instructions?
5. Do you think I should take out the melee from the prongs since it weakens the metal?
6. Should I ask for larger melee?

I would love any help, thoughts, advice or ideas.

Thank you so much in advance :)

Cherie

Do you have a photo of this exact style ring, from WF?
a real photo of a real ring, not a rendering / CAD image?
Is it a customized stock, or a stock or full custom setting?

WF unfortunately does not carry this style so it's a full custom setting.

I gave them a few inspiration pictures but I am sure if I am getting this correctly.

I don’t have this style of ring, nor have I worked with this vendor. Hopefully someone who does/has will chime in.

For the height -maybe ask them if they could lower it any? So the culet is just above metal?
can you find any thing local that’s similar to try on, to see your preference?
if you’ve already asked for delicate claw prongs, confirm it’s on the work order.
the size of melee looks similar to your inspo pic, to me.
I wouldn’t choose melee in prongs, but at least it isn’t in the prong tips, is it?
some people do have preference of prong placement, ask the vendor what’s possible?
i think, again, if at all possible, trying out similar styles out in person would help you decide some if not all of these choices. As they are mostly personal preferences?

I am with Rfisher in that I don't have this style of ring but I think 9.3mm off the band is pretty high.

Have you tried a ring on with the diamond that high? It is totally personal preference but I'm a klutz, one whack and off with its head. One way to lower it is to integrate it into the band.

Band width is a comfort thing and everyone is different. I like my bands to match the width of my ER band so my sweet spot is 2.5mm. Slender but still sturdy feeling. Another option is to ask for a thicker band on the bottom, helps with spinning, or so I have found.

Beautiful diamond, I can see why you want it to be the star.

1. Do you think the prongs from CAD look a bit thicker? How can I explain to them that I want small/delicate prong?
CAD prongs tend to look thicker than when they are finished. I would find a picture of a finished real WF ring that
has prongs like you want and send them that picture.

2. I feel like the stone is set pretty high, what's your opinion on it?
I agree, too high IMO. Its a big stone...I would have it lowered as much as possible. May not be able to see the culet
once its lowered though.

3. Do you think 2mm is a good thickness for engagement ring bands?
Since its such a big stone I might go slightly bigger like 2.3mm.
4. Thinking to change the 4 prong to 6 prong - is there a proper way/position to set it? Do I have to be specific with instructions?
If you care which way its done then you need to tell them or send pictures of how you want it done.
5. Do you think I should take out the melee from the prongs since it weakens the metal?
Yes, I would get rid of them (for aesthetic reasons). I would also have the hidden halo go between the prongs and not on the outside (like the round stone example you gave them). This might be an issue if you go with 6 prongs though.
6. Should I ask for larger melee?
If you increase the band width then go with slightly bigger ones that fit the width of the band.

@Rfisher @CSpan @tyty333 Thank you so much for helping me with this. I have read a few threads here about their custom projects didn't turn out the way they have envisioned it due to miscommunications. I certainly would not be able to tell them exactly how I want this ring to turn out without your help.

Thank you all! Happy New Year! :kiss2:
