My FI is allergic to silver and is not one for yellow gold, so I assumed white gold or platinum would be the wedding band options for him. Well, it turns out he wants either a tungsten (I had never heard of it until he mentioned it) or titanium ring. He''s done some research on it and like the materials. (He thinks it''s kinda cool that his ring could be made out of the same amterial as an airplane.)
I feel kind of bad having him get me a nice wedding band (nothing fancy schmancy, but nicer than a tungsten/titanium ring), when he''s choosing such cost-effective material, shall I say.

What do you think?

TGuy has a tungsten ring and LOVES it. He is careful not to wear it while doing manual labor or playing basketball. It looks as good as the day we got it...no scratches whatsoever.

It still cost us around $400 (I believe prices have gone up quite a bit). You''ll find a wide array of prices out there. I preferred Tungsten over Titanium (which does scratch) and TGuy likes the heft of the ring. If your man prefers something very light, titanium may do the trick.

We bought his ring at http://www.tungstenpride.com I worked with a gal named Julie and she was fab...I was very impressed with their service and their selection. You can do a lot of customization too! Another plus was that they did sizes by the quarter.

They no longer have our style on the site, so I''ll post it here for you...

April, my FI chose Tungsten also, or is it Titanium. I know it''s the non-scratch one so I guess Tungsten. He preferred the look and it''s what he wants, so we went w/it. My only thing was that I was going to engrave as a surprise but they can''t be engraved b/c that''s basically scratching the surface and it can''t be done. But whatever, he''s missing nothing b/c he never knew I planned to do it.
My ring cost quite a bit more than his but we''re both happy b/c he got what he wanted and I got what I wanted (which was something to match my ering exactly).

Thanks or the tips, ladies!

Love our hubby''s ring, TravelingGal! Very sleek!

My FI chose a titanium ring because he liked that it will get a sort of scratched patina over time (plus the fact that he could smooth it himself with a dremel tool...MEN!) and because he doesn't wear jewelry and this is so so light.

We ordered it from Boone Titanium rings and couldn't be happier. $100 and TWO DAYS for shipping/making/engraving the ring! Bruce is super fast and very nice. I believe that Mara's husband had/has a ring from him too...

One caution with titanium is that it can''t be sized. If you FI ever outgrows it, he has to buy a new ring. We started looking at getting a titanium ring, custom made by a local artist and ended up changing our minds because of it.

Well, you can actually resize a TI ring but very little. I believe that they stretch it to make it larger. As for getting scratched, it scratches very easily. Mine was scratched a lot just days after the wedding so I think I might be putting the TI away and getting a Tungsten one.

My friend''s husband has a ring from Boone. He got one with a wood inlay with a wood native to where they had their honeymoon (I forget where, just remember the story.) Anyway, it''s a great ring, and they come in all kinds of different finishes. And the cool thing about the wood inlays are that if you ever get tired of one, or if it gets damaged, you can pop it out and have them replace it super cheap. They have lots of plain titanium options, with all kinds of cool details and finishes.

I think that is where FI will end up ordering his ring...we''re just waiting to see where we end up honeymooning (shameless idea-stealers!

My FI wanted Titanium, but our jeweler said to go with the Tungsten as it does not scratch.

Found the same ring my FI loved at the jewelry store for $46 on ebay, saving me over $1-2K...Tungsten and Platinum...for that price, I can replace it yearly if he loses it! Hee hee hee!

If that is what he wants, I actually think they are very durable and masculine. Be glad he has id''d something he would like, and do not worry about what he gets you, it does not have to be even steven, and likely won''t be in life!

That is actually the nice thing about titanium, they can be had for so cheap that you can replace them often and it''s easy to try different styles and if you don''t like it there''re cheap enough to keep. I love my Ti band mostly because of the light weight but I just don''t like how the polished finish get scratched so easily. I am planning on trying the tungsten rings, they are much heavier but at least I won''t have to be careful with it.
