Five Stone ring upgrade questions - opinions

We have a three stone ring that we want to upgrade to a five stone so all the original diamonds can be used (sentimental) and are unsure about the center keeping in mind DSS is real!

The current ring is as follows
Center Round Diamond, .70 cts F VS2
2 Side diamonds .73 of equal quality

The center would become one side matched with another and the two smaller the outermost, with them being tapered (though it was also suggested we could keep them equal height)

For the center the options we have are as follows:

1.57ct
1.72ct
2.01ct

There is approx a 5k increase from each stone

And they are all F color, SI1 with excellent cut

She has short fingers which I believe are 8.25 sized however is concerned that the 2ct will overcrowd the other stones, and the perceptible difference between the 1.57 and 1.72 seems small

In any case this will be a big difference from the original but want to get it right the first time

My default is go big but don’t want it to look wrong or be unwearable and it’s a pretty big jump price wise

Any opinions/thoughts appreciated

As a rough estimate, four .70 carat diamonds and a 2.00 diamond would be roughly 31mm across or 1.2 inches. Look at that measurement across the top of the finger. The diamonds could also be set in an arc off the finger to minimize that 31mm length. Are you working with a jeweler that could provide a CAD image or better yet, a wax model? I would want to see those diamond proportions - center vs. sidestones - before I made a decision. My own finger is a 5.25 and I know it wouldn’t fit on my finger but hers is larger so the look would be different.

You can play around with this tool to get an idea of the different size stones and what the 1.57/1.72/2.00 carat would look like
on an 8.25 finger. Depending on the look you're going for going from 2.0 down to .7 might be too much of a drop...if you are
looking for somewhat of a uniform look (IMO)

(move the finger size to 8.25 and the ring width to 2)

(you can also enter the exact stone sizes instead of letting them default)

Personally, I prefer the 1.72 (or 1.57) step down to the .70. I think the drop from the 2.0 looks like too much YMMV.

The jeweler did provide images and when we first discussed it they mentioned the 2ct would most likely be too big, and when looking it’s hard to see a noticeable difference between the 1.57 and the 1.72 plus the cost is a factor if we won’t tell the difference

They also provided a rendering with a 1.25 but that seemed too small.

Proportionally the 1.57 is closer to how the original ring was from a step down perspective

She also doesn’t want the center stone sitting high so that makes it a bit more limiting

the ring would be 1 larger center stone, followed by 2 .70ct stones, and then lastly two .35 ct stones

I will use that site provided to try and see what it would look like, the renderings they provided don’t show it on a finger so it’s hard to gauge

I am a size 8 and I have a five stone with 5x 5mm stones, so ~25mm. It literally takes up all the real estate on my finger. I would be very hesitant to go larger.

Here is a graduated 5 stone with a 1.52 center. Its on a 6.5 finger and the stones are bezeled so not quite what you're looking for
but maybe you can extract some information from it.

Another thread...mostly 3 stones

Is the price differential expected, roughly 5k more for .13ct the person we are working with said they would go with the 1.7 as it makes the stone stand out and pop a bit more

Same color and clarity? No way would I pay $5k more for .13.

What is the clarity? Maybe you can drop down in clarity at the 1.72 range? or maybe even color depending on how high you are? Can
you provide more detail so we can think of other options?

We just went for it, it was an F, VS2, excellent so better than we thought and matches the original stones
