I have returned from my long PS hibernation to request your assistance. Despite being engaged since April, we have just started putting together our wedding plans for October. We have a venue, caterer, and dresses for me and the girls. Only one of our friends got married in Philly, and both that friend and my coworkers were obviously on very different budgets based on the number of recommended vendors who had starting prices that were already over my budget. So many of our friends got married in out-of-the way places that there was only 1 option. The options here are a bit overwhelming.
We are putting the bulk of the $ towards food and drinks and the venue, so even though we are lucky enough (based on lots of saving and parental help) to have what I think is an extremely generous budget, I''m finding that I am priced out of a lot of vendors for the other pieces -- particularly flowers/decor and photographers. I just don''t have time to DIY the decor, and it isn''t practical anyway since we are doing the ceremony and reception in the same space with the room having to be turned over during cocktail hour.
I didn''t start out with a really particular vision for the wedding, but after looking at a lot of floral/decor pics I know what I want, and it is definitely not a traditional look that I could easily get from the grocery store floral department. The photos are also really important, esp. as we are not doing video, and I really want them to be awesome.
Anyway, now that I vented all that, here''s where I am.
I have met with a few vendors already (2 florists, 1 photographer), but I would really appreciate hearing from anyone who loved (or hated) their florist and/or photographer in this area and felt they got a good deal.
On a more general level, how many should I really be meeting with? How detailed should the proposals be, especially for florists? Should I get some committment as to the size of bouquets, etc? I don''t want them to come down to my budget by giving me a pale shadow of what I want. How do I know until they do the samples?
Thanks in advance for imparting your wisdom to my sad overwhelmed self!
