FLOURESCENCE

I found a ring on the internet that has these classifications-- Color F, VS2, GIA, Ideal cut, Girdle is thin-medium faceted, culet-none, polish and symmetry are "good", and the flourescence is "strong". I know what all the others mean, but I''m still not sure if strong flourescence is good or not. Also, if the rating of "good" under polish and symmetry OK? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Linus! Well, I think that opinions differ on the fluorescence deal. Some people really like it, even look for it when purchasing diamonds. Others feel that it may make a stone look too milky. Personally, I like a little fluorescence. As for the ''strong'' rating your particular stone has - use your eyes. If you like the way the stone looks, in all different types of lighting, then go for it. In the end, it all comes down to what you prefer and like to see. With the symmetry/polish issue, I think that ''good'' is fine, although of course, ''very good'' or ''excellent'' would be preferable. Just curious, is this a round stone or a fancy cut? Also, many times fluorescence will make a diamond''s face-up color look a grade or so better ( for example, an " I" colored stone may look like an "H" because of the fluor.). but with an " F" you really don''t have to worry about the color, as that''s a pretty good one!

I agree with Irish Eyes about the strong flourecence in the stone you found on the internet. Many people like medium to strong flourecence if their stone is lower in color. It can make an I color appear like it was an H in color. This is not your case however. You are dealing with an F color, so you really don''t want flourescence in your diamond. Hopefully others will chime in and give their opinions, but if it were me, I wouldn''t be comfortable with a strong flourescence in an F colored stone. Good luck and let us know what you decide!!

I think irishEyes and Kaleigh have hit it on the head--flourescence can be a big benefit to G+ stones but in an F, I''d want to see the stone.

I personally love flourescence. I have a band made up of four 55+ pt stones F-G and they all have med-strong blue flourescence.... I get a million compliments on this ring and I swear it''s becasue the flourescence really gives the stones a "zing"... Each dimaond needs to be judged individually, but you''ll want to make sure the flourescence in an f stone works for you.

Thanks for all of your responses. The ring I had in mind is a round ideal cut ring. After asking this question, I looked up some of the other rings and they all seem to have flourescense labled as "strong". Since it''s an F, I guess it would be better to not risk it. If I could see it in person it would be one thing, but this is to be purchased off of ADIAMOR.COM, so I want to be confident I''ll like it before I buy it. I was looking around the site and found some oval diamonds that are higher quality but cheaper, I guess because they''re oval.... ?? I''m so confused!

my center stone does not have fluorescence but some of the melee stones (there are 99 in total on the band) exhibit fluor from medium to strong...I couldn''t tell you which one is which!

My ring has medium flourescence, it''s a VS2 H, round, and I notice it most in bright sunlight and, for some reason, in the elevator at work. It gives it a kind of blue zap, which I really like. It faces up really white. I''ve heard it can make the stone look oily or milky, but mine doesn''t look that way at all.

I like a little flourescence too. My e ring doesn''t have any but the diamond ring my step grandmother gave to me does. I only found out cause I wore it out to a club and it turned ultra violet under the black lights.
