Someone try to upload the picture because for some reason I can''t do it.

Oh it''s true alright...he even has his own blog! http://samugliestdog.typepad.com/blog/

I came across him a few weeks ago and was in complete disbelief. To each their own ;) Glad to hear he''ll be able to live his last days out in such a loving and adoring home.

I love animals and am afraid to look at this in case it shows or tells the story of an abused dog. Please just say, "yes" (it does show something upsetting) or, "no" and I will avoid or look accordingly. I have to protect myself from getting upset at child abuse and animal abuse. I have to avoid the news stories on both. In my life I take action to help avert both. I know they happen. I just cannot read about them. I give money to animal causes and do what I can as a social worker to help families (God willing before a child is abused). Some people can''t stand the sight of blood. I was a phlebotomist in college. But I cannot bear to read about helpless creatures who think they will be cared for and are betrayed. Maybe I better just get out of this thread and stay out :-(.

Deb, it is not an abused or injurred animal, just a funny looking one!

I almost didn''t read this posting...I peered at it warily at first. But I am glad I did. Thank you for telling me!

Deb

But there are no ugly dogs.

OMG it is worse than "Pet Cemetary!" I think it''s mean that the owners haven''t put it to sleep because of how sick it is, if all the ailments it has are true.

"Unfortunately, Sam is suffering from a number of age-related ailments (congestive heart failure, lung and kidney problems) and will probably make no more public appearances, so he may have to cede his "World''s Ugliest Dog" crown in next year''s competition."

Here is the picture lmurden (PS doesn''t support the .bmp file extension, so I changed it)

Gosh when I first saw the article titles and started reading it, I thought well it can't be THAT bad, all dogs are cute.

32.gif

Okay maybe not!!! He reminds me of a Gremlin!

I think it's awesome that he has a mom who adores him...but I do feel bad if he is suffering from major internal ailments...it's kind of like quality of life.

Wow, that was kind of disturbing. Why are his eyes white?

Cataract probably. But, I looked up the breed, and even young, healthy chinese crested dogs don''t look that cute......

He''s blind. I''m not sure if thats the reason they''re actually white, maybe really bad cataracts?! but yeah thats not normal.

I was fascinated with it at work and watched a film clip on him and looked at the other pictures. To be fair to the poor, sick dog, that is quite possibly the worst picture of him out there! He''s just old and sick, I always feel abnormally bad for the sick/odd ball pets!

You just have to love him - he is so adorably ugly - if that makes sense

God help me, but he is not only a living thing but a living mammal and a living dog. I hope he isn''t suffering. I would hold him in my arms and try to make him know he was loved if it didn''t hurt him to be held. Why the heck should the poor animal''s looks matter? What about old people? Should we stare at pictures of the sick and elderly all day to amuse ourselves because we aren''t there yet? If it amuses you, go to it. It isn''t hurting the dog that you find amusement in this, after all. I just want to be on the record as saying it doesn''t amuse me and if that were my dog and you made fun of it in my presence, you would be very, very sorry.

Deborah

I have to think if his owner is entering him in the Ugliest Dog in the World contest that she probably doesn''t feel the same way, Deb.

I feel bad for the thing since it has so many internal problems!! Not only is it ugly but it probably is suffering as well.

PS..it does look like the Crypt Keeper. Last nite I was trying to describe the dog to Greg and that was the only desc I could think of.

I understand where you are coming from, and I can respect that. But this is an open online forum, and we are free to express our opinions with some anonymity. Just because we see a hideous picture of a dog (assuming it''s real), it doesn''t mean we are going to make fun of the sick and the elderly. It''s called a sense of humor. It''s a nice break from a long work week and all this diamond talk.

It''s a dog. No matter what he looks like, he is fortunate enough to live and have a loving home. Thousands of animals in the shelters are put to sleep every day and thousands are roaming the streets. Better yet, millions of people are starving, dying, suffering, homeless and stricken with illnesses all over the world. Do they get a loving home? Who''s defending them? Obviously, the owner feels secure enough about this dog to enter him in a contest. And he won! I''m sure he''s had his share of stares and jokes. At least he can be the best at something. Does this dog know if people are making fun of him? Who cares??? He''s busy making appearances and book signings. He is not feeling sorry for himself, so why should we?

Call me shallow, but if I''m going to adopt or buy a dog, it better be cute. Cuz they will need it when they drive me up the wall. If I think a dog looks cute or scary, I will say it. It''s my initial reaction. That doesn''t mean I will do it in real life!

If you were referring to my post Deborah, I stand corrected. Those on PS who know me well, know that I have dedicated my life to animals and always try to help those in need. I did say if you look at my post that you have to love him - he is so adorably ugly - maybe the wrong description that I think he's cute. I can see beauty in all animals, far more than in most people actually. I can totally understand that if someone was mocking your dog that you would be furious - I would be too. Also for the record I found Blue24's post about switching her colleagues computer backgrounds around funny because she was playing a trick on them, the pictures could have been of chopped liver and I still would have found it funny, not because it had pictures of the dog. Call it a childish sense of humour if you will. If your comments were intended for me, I am sorry if you misunderstood - I think all animals are beautiful and there are those on here that actually know that. However I do admire your compassion for animals, the world would be a better place for animals for more of it.

If I hadn''t been so angry, I would have taken the time to make sure I did not sound as if I were singling anyone out, Lorelei, and I think that I did. sound as if I were. I did not mean to post that way. No, I did not think you didn''t love animals because of anything you wrote. I felt a visceral rage towards anyone who would harm something ugly and I guess I felt that if one dehumanizes someone it is easier to hurt him, so that if you de-dogify an ugly dog you are closer to seeing him as worthless and a creature who could be harmed, not loved. This runs deep in me. I''m admitting that.

You're right. If I speak out about a dog in an open forum where you can speak, it is causing starvation and death among humans. Sorry to have missed the obvious. Now if I shut about about dogs, how many human lives will I save?

Deborah

OMG! I hope someone protests that kind of contest...
