If money weren''t an issue- where would you have your "dream" honeymoon?

I voted a few weeks ago for the "Today Show Throws a Wedding" and the honeymoon packages were like $50,000+ WHAT?!?!?

I''ll go first- I would LOVE anything tropical - but I''d REALLY love to have something private and beachfront- maybe in Bora Bora?

We''re DEFINITELY going to Bora Bora. If we have to get married at the courthouse, we are going to Bora Bora. We figure it''s one time in our lives that the trip is justifiable and it would be so romantic and beautiful. Sigh.

Petit St. Vincent also looks very amazing. So secluded and gorgeous. But we want an August/Sept wedding and that''s not really a great time to visit.

Off topic: Are you a pharmacy student?? Because I am too! I''m finishing my 2nd year of a 3 year program!

Amanda, I agree about the private beachfront thing. I''m all about Bora Bora, Fiji, or Tahiti. I''d love to stay in one of those private bungalows that sit over the water (ahhhh heaven).

Hey Alicia!

Yes, I am a pharamcy student! I''m going into my 3rd year of 4. I didn''t know they did 3 year degrees anymore. Is it still a doctorate program, or do you just go year-round (with no summer break)?

It's a Pharm. D program, but we do quarters instead of semesters. And yeah, we unfortunately go all summer.

Luckily, we only have an elective, PT 4, economics and genomics (even though PT 4 is like... a bazillion credit hours) so it's really not too bad.

ETA: I should definitely be studying for economics right now. The summer makes me so unmotivated!

Definitely Tahiti, then off to Napa Valley, and finish in Lake Tahoe. I would love for a long 3 week honeymoon!

Ooh...fun question!

Somewhere mediterranean during beach season: greek isles, amalfi cost, south of france.

Oh no! I forgot to add Santorini to my list. Maybe we can save that one for our anniversary

Europe..and we are ...hehehehe :-)

BF would want to go back to Paris again. I want to go to Greece. So maybe.... half and half.

eta: BF's aunt and uncle took 6 months off their work and traveled around the world for their honeymoon. THAT would be the ultimate honeymoon for me but that's sooooooo not happening.

I'd love to go to Santorini or Bora Bora, and although I've already been to Italy, the BF hasn't and wants to, so that's another option. Oh.. and Paris would be neat as well

Vanuatu is a nice place for a honey moon... not the most expensive as world destinations go I guess, but very honeymoonish...indeed...

Europe, probably the Greek isles and then we would spend some time after with my extended family there so we could share in our wedding joy with them :).

Machu Picchu, we both have always wanted to go there so I think it would be a perfect spot.

Nice, France.

Ever since I went there when I was 16, I swore I''d be back there to honeymoon. Probably one of the most beautiful places I''ve ever been.

A South America tour hitting every country

I'm very upset that my boyfriend hasn't taken me to Chile yet (that's where he's from)

but we're making our way there

Although I will say that one of our dream vacations is a 14 day meditteranean (spell check is really needed on this forum LOL) cruise and we are most likely going to plan a wedding AROUND the cost of the honeymoon so that we can go on the cruise.

We had a similar thread last year, great topic! Here's what I wrote that time:

I'm so not a beach girl. Irish skin + sun = OWWWW!!!

I've no set ideas on honeymoon... I've travelled a lot so honeymoon to me is just another holiday, it doesn't have to be the 'holiday of a lifetime'. We plan on doing that next year anyway!

BUT, on holidays, I have always wanted to do one of the package trips in Lapland. There are different itineraries but usually you'll include a reindeer sled ride out into the wilderness to eat at a campfire in the snow and spend the night in a log cabin; a day learning to drive a husky sled; a night in an igloo with a glass roof through which you can watch the Northern Lights; and a night in an ice hotel... you get the idea!!!

Here's one link and here's an igloo!

By the way, did you guys know 'honeymoon' is an Irish word? There used to be a tradition here that newlyweds would drink mead (an alcoholic drink made from honey) for the first month (one moon's passage) after their marriage. It was supposed to, ahem, aid fertility!

Well, if we''re going to be ridiculous, I''d love to spend 6 months travelling the world, but that''s not likely to happen unless J or I win the lotto, so...

But realistically or even semi-relistically? No idea, really. I don''t even know what country we''ll be getting married in, because we don''t know yet where we''re going to settle down, and until we know that and have some idea of dinero, the honeymoon is way far down the line of things I''ve thought about. It''d be lovely to go back to Australia, or to see Tahiti (since I paid for a vacation there but didn''t get to take it

) or visit Capri and other gorgeous places I dream about in Italy....or spend a few nights in an old English castle...

I''m torn between a month long tour of Europe and a month in a private beach villa in Bora Bora or Fiji.

I''ve always had two dream locations in mind for my honeymoon and I don''t think they''re SUPER extravagant so the dream should be manageable. It''s a tossup between a magical Minnie-Mickey-Ears type holiday in Disneyland (plus Universal Studios, Sea World, etc.) and a week in an all-inclusive 5-star Mexican resort.

BF dreams of going to New Zealand, which would be awesome! But I''m more of a Bora Bora girl.

Though that could be a stop on the way back, right?!

One of those over-the-water private bungalows in Fiji...>

OR an amazing chateau in the French countryside (Champagne region), with a cute ride to take me to Paris and the Riviera.

OR a chalet in the Swiss Alps

OR Morocco, w/ a gorgeous private villa on the Mediterranean

OR a tour of S. America (including Colombia, where my fam is from)

OR a tour of the UK and then ending my trip at a beautiful spot on the coast of Ireland.

I could go on forever here, so I'll stop now...

I''m so torn!

On one hand a secluded bungalow over the water in Bora Bora sounds perfect. BUT this is going to sound crazy...I think I might get bored. I''m not a big lay out kind of girl...I like to go and do and see.

So, I''m leaning more towards a luxury African Safari and then maybe end it in Madagascar on the beach! (best of both worlds!) I''ve always wanted to climb Kilamanjaro, so it would be th perfect time.

Of course after the Huge wedding the BF wants and the very nice ring that I want...we might have to settle for camping in the backyard...hehe.

I too am one that likes to have lots to do on a holiday, but if you read the wedding magazines, and talk to honeymooners its not the best way to go. That of course depends on the type of wedding you are planning. If you are planning a big to do, they say the best holiday is one of complete relaxion and it may be the only time in your life you will truly enjoy relaxing. I don''t know just something to think about... I may not even take the advise but I will consider it!!!
2.gif

that is probably very good advice. I''ll def. remember that and make sure that there is some relaxation time involved!

Being the self admitted nerd that I am, I would love to go to the Galapagos Islands.

But I am *hoping* for the Greek isles.

i must be a nerd too ;) i'd love to go there also and i know the boy would too haha

few places (that i''ve already been too)

Goa (india) - i''ll take the heat and the unsavory atmosphere (to some, not to me!) just to sit back, relax and watch the cows on the beach (no joke!)

BVI - last resort or soggy dollar bar - both have seperate beaches. wonderful food, great bands and did i mention its in the virgin islands??!?!?!!? its sooooo ooo ooo wonderful there. plus rum is the major drink. yum...rum
31.gif

Whistler - my boyf loves to snowboard and i love to (window)shop. its the perfect combo! plus i love the small town atmosphere! you walk everywhere!

I just want a place to chillax rather than sightsee!
