For those that have evaluated stones with OWD…

I am curious, how does the Home Evaluation process work? I am currently chatting with Adam who is in the process of checking his inventory… I’m on the hunt for a super spready 3.75- 4.5 OEC or OMB, eye clean and MNOP range. This will be an upgrade to my original 2.5 OMB originally sourced by Mark at ERD 13 years ago.

I’m in the Boston area, so a 45 minute flight to NYC- it’s not out of the question- but with the kids back in school, a trip out is a bit more cumbersome. I go back and forth given I would love to see MANY in person and with settings.

I am curious, do you pay up front full price via CC to evaluate a stone and have it shipped to you? A deposit? I asked but received a rather general answer of “you pay when we find your stone to take it off market.” I planned to ask for clarification but figured I would come here in the interim… and is there a limit to stones? I’m really excited to work on this project with Adam, I’ve been an admirer for years and really feel he will find the right stone!

I know that Missy has used OWD's home evaluation. Do you mind chiming in @missy ?

I just want to mention that NY Jaws is next month if you can swing a day or overnight trip to NYC. That's a great show!

Thank you!! And yes, I’ve heard of JAWS over the years, I don’t think I could drag my husband to that , but boy that would be an amazing show to go to!! Also, I’m getting a really amazing Trade opportunity with Adam, so I want to stick with him as the Vendor…

Can't wait to see what you end up with!

I would encourage you to really consider trying to get to NYC to meet with Adam -- you could fly in for a few hours and return home the same day.

Hi Lulu! So yeah I am not sure that was what it was called at that time tbh. Adam kindly allowed me to take home a gorgeous gorgeous OEC ring for the weekend to evaluate it under all conditions. There was no official name for the program and all I did at that time (many years ago) was have my homeowners insurance cover the ring temporarily for me while it was in my possession. Hope that helps @TruLuv858

I will add it was a delight working with Adam. A true delight and he stopped at nothing to give great customer service. That is his MO

I did this for my OMC. I paid for the loose diamond upfront - he pre-authorized my card for the full amount. I had 3 days to view it, although pretty much decided in the first few hours she was mine!

If you haven’t seen multiple stones IRL, I personally think it’s helpful. I had done trips to a few stores that carried antiques before I bought my stone to absolutely make sure I wanted an OMC vs OEC, and figure out what color range and cut I really preferred. Granted they are all unique, but I felt confident I my choice because of that. If you haven’t seen more than your stone IRL, I’d personally recommend going to NYC

Sounds like an incredibly generous program... not sure the details on how it works now? Are you local to NYC? Maybe that is why?

Me too! Can't wait to see how this hunt ends! I hope it ends with a Gorgeous OEC like yours, well, the little sister, or Baby Sister! Lol! :lol-2:

The more I think of it the more I am leaning towards that, thinking maybe we take the kiddos with us and take the train as a family, make a weekend out of it! Not sure Hubby would be into as much as we would- he used to have to travel to NJ/NY EVERY WEEK for 7 years, so not his favorite!

I agree... Also, In going down this rabbit hole I read your story, lots of twists and turns and I loved reading every bit of it! Your new setting, tho!!! :kiss2::kiss2::kiss2:

I’m not far and we are at the Jersey Shore and that is where I brought the ring. Incredibly generous yes because I did not leave a deposit. Just got my homeowners insurance on board to cover it for the time in my possession. I think Adam is not only a wonderful diamond dealer he’s a great person too. I love doing business with him. He’s fair, professional and has an excellent eye for amazing old cuts ♥️

This was the stunning ring I had possession of for a few days. IMG_7635.jpeg

You should go to JAWS in October!

Just go alone lol

We need a front view!

Lol I’m on the go and quickly found the above photo. The thing is many of my photos are with Bea and since she’s no longer mine I don’t want to post her pic out of respect for her owner. I’ll see what I can find alone. I took so many pics together comparing facets and profile

Sorry I didn’t pay attention to the earlier responses before saying “go to JAWS” etc. OWD is great but if you haven’t settled on a stone idk if you should limit yourself to a vendor bc of the trade situation …just my 2 cents. Since JAWS is coming up so soon it’s an amazing opportunity to see tons of stones from lots of vendors in one place.

I’ll add the more you see the more you’ll know what you want in a stone. Go to jaws if you can. It’s a fabulous event

Just go alone lol

This made me LOL!

and @missy I agree, I am dying to see some front view shots, more for the eye candy then anything else. I am excited to work with Adam, he really seems quite lovely. I am waiting for him to line up some stones just for me to view online, and I keep hitting refresh on my Instagram hoping for something :lol-2:

He is very lovely. And I’m super picky lol. And girl, I hear you. If I can find shots without Bea later I’ll share. Ultimately the stone wasn’t for me. I love a steep crown and it didn’t have that but oh it was gorgeous in every other way

Oh, she is Pretty!!! And I am sorry about your Pup :cry2:

I *think* OWD is only open during weekdays. I went to JAWS on a weekend so I never actually made it to OWD. But I have only heard good things about Adam.

I am also in Boston. I recommend going to Shreve's to look at their old cut rings-just for facet patterns. They have a beautifully faceted L in your carat range-but ignore that color. It's a brownie-and I am very surprised that it was graded an L.

After you get your stone, we should set up a playdate

Yeah, please doublecheck w/ Adam but if I recall correctly OWD is not open on the weekends and Fridays are half-days (?)

For sure go see IRL if you can at all. It gives you so many more options. You will be able to tell right away if one is not the right one for you.

I would do that as well. For the amount of the purchase that you are considering, I think it is well worth your time.

Haha! Yes, I’m totally up for it!!

For those invested in this thread, we’ve decided to go visit Adam the first week of October, so. Ow just figuring out logistics, and taking the kiddos. It will just be an overnight but should be fun!

I went to OWD with @missy a few years ago. She kindly arranged an appointment for me and we went together. He knew my budget and pulled out several stones for me to look at. He was incredibly generous with his time and knowledge. I had plenty of time to look at each stone, and he gave his professional (and honest) opinion on each one.

He then put all the ones I said I liked together, so I could see side by side.

I would say if you can, arrange and appt and go and view in person.

I ultimately didn’t buy from him, but only because @missy decided to part with Bea and I bought her (which had originally come from OWD).

These were the final 6

Something weird happened with your last post.

I hope you post a bunch of pics from your OWD visit!

I thought the same thing? I have NO CLUE how that happened! Great idea about Shreve Crump and Low- its funny, I thought they closed permanently on Newbury, but I think I must be remembering the pandemic timeframe when it appeared everything was closed?! :confused2:DH and I will be in the city next friday, so I will have us take a peek DH is also in the market for a new Rolex, so it will be a worthwhile stop!

And oh my gosh I would love to see your Beauty IRL!! Looks like 10/05 is the date, ans I will be sure to take a TON of pictures.

@Austina that pic!! OMG, I cannot wait until our appointment! I am curious how many stones did you start with? Also, did you find that he stayed on budget or did he throw in some above?

HI:

Very exciting!!!!!

cheers--Sharon
