Hi gang! I was wondering if any of you had a good suggestion for a father-daughter dance.

Here are the realities --

My dad is not only tone-deaf, but has little to no rhythm -- Did you ever see Mr. Holland''s Opus where the football player/drummer has a helmet on and Mr. Opus is "helping" him find the beat by banging on the helmet with a (drum) mallet? Yeah, my dad needs that. It''s hard because I DO have rhythm and then I get all tripped up when dancing with someone who doesn''t.

My dad cannot dance, except the foxtrot (according to my mom) and I will not foxtrot for our dance. Cuz I don''t know how. I watched Dancing with the Stars and all that, but it didn''t click.

I am not a great dancer. My fiance and I have sort of figured out a system for dancing, but other than that, I''m at a loss.

Dad and I would like to practice a few times before the wedding.

We''re looking for a SHORT song, slowish, either a waltz or 4/4 time thing. Nothing over-the-top schmaltzy because he and I need to focus on counting, not on making snarky comments about the song.

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Jas,
Thanks for the update BTW ... I think I forgot to post over there but glad things are looking up!!

Anyhoo ... IF we do the father/daughter .. mother/son dances ... I think I''ve settled on
"DRIVE" by The Cars. ''Cause he sure did a lot of driving me around ... picking me up at parties, taking me to & from college (16 hour roundtrip for him) and once when I had a job at a shopping channel that was a 9pm - 2am shift in a deserted part of town... he''d drive there & shadow me home at closing EVERY NIGHT for whole summer, then get up at 6am for his own job. YIKES.

Other songs I considered:

"DAUGHTERS" by John Mayer - but the message of this song is not really appropriate, it''s about a dad who messed up his daugher so she has bad relationships & implores other dad''s not to do the same.

"I LOVED HER FIRST" by ??? - I haven''t even HEARD this song, but it''s getting a lot of traction on threads that discuss this issue ... new Country Song, on the charts now I think??

You know how country songs can really make you cry? it''s one of those.
