Hi you all!
Being based in Europe, I was wondering the following. Really only got to know french cut diamonds through PS. Since then always on the lookout… never find them anywhere in Europe. Have been to tons of antique jewellery shops (or rather been window shopping), never ever came across one. There also does not seem to be a term for it in other languages. And the term french cut does not seem to be known by most). Why is that so?! Any ideas? It’s bugging me…

I think there was a thread fairly recently discussing the French term for a French cut and whether such a term even existed. I can’t think who started the thread - maybe @kipari , although I don’t think it was? I (not very helpfully!) can’t find the old thread either.

Yes, that was me. And I haven't found any french cut diamonds here I France since either.

My mother tongue is German and I don't know the word in German either....
Have never come across any in the wild.

Peruzzi cut , yes, OEC OMCs in bunches, carré cuts etc but no French cuts at all ever ..

Am in USA so can’t help you with terms near you, but I have seen them listed as square rose cuts before, and a few older ‘master jewelers’ near me use that same term as well.

Interesting - I visited Vienna recently and asked in several shops… nothing. Same in France.

@diagem
This should be right up his alley.
